” he HE-560’s transparency and “speed” produced startlingly realistic drum sound, and the cymbals’ metallic sheen was beautifully resolved. It’s rare to hear a trumpet’s incredible dynamics reproduced without compression, and I could clearly hear the instrument within the context of the church’s natural reverberation. The HE-560 didn’t hold anything back.”

” It is very strange, but I had trouble keeping the earbuds where they should be, in my ears. For earphones that are meant to be used with a mobile device and by that logic when you are on the move, the Sennheiser in-ear has a problem. I tried both the ear plugs that come in the box, but both of them struggled to stay in place”

” The Nemo produced the most subdued version, creating an almost tube-like rendition on Van’s voice. The Pass Labs Xs 300 produced something in between, but also with a bit more detail and natural texture than the Nemo or Nada. In my subjective opinion, the Pass Labs Xs 300 did the best job with this recording, taking the edge off Van’s voice while still providing every detail and nuance of that voice.”

” As I spent time with the Noble 4 it started to remind me of my Zu Druid V speakers. They share an immediacy that brings back more of live music’s presence. Acoustic guitars sound natural on the Noble 4, and cymbals and percussion instruments shimmer and sparkle as they do in real life”

” During the course of my listening I also employed Anthem’s Statement M1 mono amplifiers. They are absolutely fantastic. I’m a tube guy through and through, but I could happily live with the M1s. While not quite as liquid through the midrange as my tubed Audio Research VT100, the Anthems come easily within spitting distance, and add a healthy dollop of control that is most addictive”

” On tracks with intense sub-bass content, like The Knife’s “Silent Shout,” the T10i produces a thunderous low frequency response, distortion-free even at top, unsafe listening levels even with the treble-focused filters in. The bass here is intense, and without the treble filters in place, the high-mids and highs would be muffled and the track unbalanced. With them in, the track sounds powerful and sculpted in both the deep lows and the crisp highs”
