“Classical tracks, like the opening scene in John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary, sound fantastic, with the lower register strings receiving just enough low-mid and low frequency presence to bring them out of the mix a bit, while the vocals, higher register strings, and brass remain bright, crisp, and in the spotlight”

“While some will surely cry foul since Rothman did not perform any blind or ABX testing to “prove” what he heard, and he chose a track to highlight that was originally recorded to analog tape, “The difference was clear” is pretty clear to me.”

“Thibaudet and the Azur 851A got the cabaret-like “purring” of the holothurian just right. Pianist and amplifier seemed in sync—I could feel the varied forces of Thibaudet’s fingers as they struck the keys. At this point in my listening I could best describe the sound of the Azur 851A as relaxed and enjoyably colorful, in a class-A triode sort of way. It sounded more naturally toned and weighty than my Creek 3330 or my Line Magnetics LM-518IA, and showed none of that off-putting grayness or brittleness often heard in low-priced, high-powered amps.”

“igh frequencies are crossed over at 3.2 kHz to a dome-and-cone tweeter arrangement consisting of a 2.5-cm aluminum-magnesium dome and 4-cm bio-cross diaphragm. Magnetic Distortion Cancellation Technology (M.D.C.T) in the crossover enables the driver to perform with detailed airiness up to 50 kHz. Another element contributing to Onkyo’s D-77NE’s high performance is the crossover network, which features German-made WIMA fixed-film dielectric capacitors and three separate coils to prevent flux leakage. ”

” NIGMAcoustics is working on a full range model for the future. In the meantime, what the M1 will do is become your faithful companion for just about every musical genre — except maybe for those nasty, full scale, highly complex orchestral pieces — and this is not a small thing.”

” As impressed as I was with the appearance and sound of the Soho Wireless, there was one thing that I wish were different. They’re very lightweight and don’t put a lot of pressure on the ears—this is good. However, because they’re so light and the earcups are completely flat, I found them occasionally slipping off my ears”
