” It offers exceptional loudspeaker stability and forms part of the reflex loading system on the XT6 bookshelf, and the 6” and 8” floorstanding models. On these three models, energy exits from a down-firing port and is evenly directed into the room, resulting in deep bass with exceptional differentiation of instrumental notes. In addition, the design reduces room boundary effects and facilitates easy loudspeaker placement.”

“Balancing out the high end is a low frequency range that extends comfortably down and out of hearing range without rattling the chassis or over-modulating the drivers. This was by design, according to Audio Technica, who created the earcups out of a mix of aluminum and magnesium that they claim helps to remove unwanted resonance.”

“This mode is simply labeled “NAD” under the Listening Mode field within the onscreen GUI. I experimented with this mode and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. A feature like this can be very arbitrary, but my first instinct is that it made an improved difference, although results can vary depending on the movie soundtrack.”

” The music emerged from a superquiet, jet-black background with a big, commanding sound, lifelike scale, and tight, deep bass — all hallmarks of a well-designed, high-mass turntable. Paul Chambers’s lowest double-bass notes in “Flamenco Sketches,” for example, had authoritative weight and extension while remaining taut and well-defined, devoid of any bloat or overhang”

” This more transparent nature means it’s not as smooth a listen as the HA-1, and not as forgiving at lower-bitrate tracks, but even then you tend not to focus on a recording’s shortcomings, thanks to the Hugo’s inherently musical approach.”

“As much as I admire the QC25’s state-of-the-art noise hushing and comfort, I’m less impressed by its sound. The QC25 is good, but better-sounding headphones are available for the same price. So I guess it comes down to how much of your listening time you spend in noisy environments. ”

Rotel RSP-1582 Reference Review

“While Rotel touts the importance of the PEQ and the ability for a dealer to dial in the processor to a room, the omission of any room correction solution is a glaring omission in today’s market. There’s also no current or future support for immersive surround formats such as Dolby Atmos, Auro-3D, or DTS:X. As with most of Rotel’s products, the RSP-1582 doesn’t appear to have an upgrade path, so prospective buyers should think very carefully before making such an investment—especially in light of the fact that we are in the middle of a technology transition with UHD standards being outlined and HDMI 2.0 fresh on the market.”

EARSONICS VELVET REVIEW

” Firstly, its lower shoulder keeps a stronger angle against the ear, ensuring it stays in place. It’s not as secure as a custom earphone, nor does it lay as flat as the SM64, or even an Ultrasone IQ. But it fits well, is pretty comfortable, and it hangs most of bulk outside of the concha in a vertically-built chassis. That allows it to fit into medium-small ears, which is great help. The proof? My wife told me that she could go with Velvet for the entire ride from Tsukuba to Nagareyama Central Park, which takes about thirty minutes. She lasted for about fifteen minutes with Dita Audio’s The Answer.”
