“Vocals are forward and fresh with good separation. However, do not expect romantically soft, voluminous and lush mids. The details are amazing; depending on the record they can be a bit edgy, though. This is apparent with modern records that have little dynamic range and push the volume too high. The upper mids/ lower treble has a pronunciation that retrieves a lot of information, gives an airy sound, but can also cause fatigue when used extensively. The upper treble is very well extended.”

” These are not a reference IEM by any means; they’re meant to be enjoyed. Unfortunately, it does not extend as far as other IEMs can which eats away some of its airiness and microdetails and keeps it from being a top-tier IEM. Cymbal decay is the easiest way to discern how well an IEM handles treble detail and the Altone 200 comes just short of resolving the harmonics something like the UERM or even the Hifiman RE600 or DUNU DN2000 can.”

” Now it uses magnets (what can I say, Audeze like playing with magnets) to stay in place and it also has 8 signal points per side. Now while it doesn’t do anything special in this implementation, it has a lot of opportunity to shine in the future, maybe for charging a Bluetooth headphone or connecting to the lightning output of an iPhone 6, who knows the possibilities are endless. “The PMA-50 was ergonomically very good. It ran cool, even as it was left on 24/7, and was compact enough to make it easy to fit into any system. My only complaints are I wish the remote was a tad bigger, and that the display on the front panel could be enlarged. Other than that, the PMA-50 is really a very well designed product.”
