” The mids sit just behind the lows in terms of presence, but they do not sound recessed. Vocals shine through with good detail and no sibilance, both male and female vocals sound even in their presentation. Electric guitars have power, and the mids are always present and engaging, acoustic guitars have body and decay.”
Vandersteen Audio • Model Seven Mk II Loudspeakers $62,000 Review

” Once the amplifier passes the signal to the speakers, the active drive applies an inverse gain to the subwoofer, restoring the overall balance. But that’s not all it does. This is a true integrated system, in which the amplifier and driver were developed and work in tandem. The driver itself uses a flared sandwich cone in which two aluminum skins are bonded together with a proprietary foam material.”
Margules Audio SF220.15 20th Anniversary Stereo Tube Preamplifier – Review

“I enjoyed my time with the Margules amp and preamp, as well as their phono preamp I will review next. I would be remiss if I didn’t reiterate about the rich and musical harmonics this preamp allows me to hear. There is just something in the reproduction of the harmonic structure of the music that moves a music system beyond being just an ensemble of good equipment.”
Audeze EL-8 Planar Magnetic Open-Back Review
August 24, 2015 Comments Off on Audeze EL-8 Planar Magnetic Open-Back Review
“The EL-8s relayed the album with a velvety richness in the guitar and organ, with a smooth, laid-back percussion character. Compared to the AKG-K702 Anniversary, the top end is not as bright, which I expected as the AKG is a conventional driver headphone.”

“The TC-Towers 2 use a hornloaded 28mm fabric ferrofluid cooled dome tweeter with powerful neodymium motor which is high-passed at 2.25kHz. Placed in separate internal enclosures, the paralleled mid/woofers are 152mm curvilinear paper diaphragms featuring 44mm aluminium voice coils, neodymium magnets and unique angled wedges pressed within the rubber roll surrounds. TC Loudspeakers quote a frequency response of 36Hz to 20kHz within ±3dB tolerance.”

Audeze Deckard Review
August 23, 2015 Comments Off on Audeze Deckard Review
“First up was The Grateful Dead and their newly released remaster: The Best of the Grateful Dead (2015) and Audeze’s open EL-8 headphones. Immediately the instrumental separation and sound staging capabilities grabbed my attention; especially for an amp/dac combo in this price range! Each instrument was easily detectable from the next and there was never any smearing between the players or instruments on the recording. The openness of the sound was simply jaw dropping.

CAMPFIRE AUDIO THE LYRA IEM REVIEW
August 23, 2015 Comments Off on CAMPFIRE AUDIO THE LYRA IEM REVIEW
“Lower midrange is perhaps more akin to the bass response being full but polite and staying slightly muted however detail and zip picks up with a more forward vocal range. There is a slight bit of sibilance now and then on some vocal tracks with the stock cable but nothing distracting. ”
