DSD Audio can be played natively through USB devices that support it. In cases where a PCM interface is used, or even the computer’s built-in audio, the software automatically plays DSD back through the interface at any available sample rate. A section of the DSD file can be exported as a new file, either in DSD or WAV format, to separate one long recording into individual tracks.
SVS SB13-Ultra Subwoofer Review
September 13, 2015 Comments Off on SVS SB13-Ultra Subwoofer Review
The SB13-Ultra was delivered in a moderate sized box that somehow still weighs about 100lbs according to my highly accurate back scale. After cutting the tape and popping the top open I could see that the packaging was substantial and very protective. The SB13-Ultra is double boxed with heavy gauge cardboard. Inside of the box are die cut foam inserts at the top and bottom and a couple of thick foam corner inserts. Removal of the SB13-Ultra was simple and took maybe 5 minutes. Contained in the boxes with the SB13-Ultra are the metal grille, the power cord and a quick start guide. The full length owner’s manual is available online from SVS. The SB13-Ultra isn’t overly large or imposing but it is a bit heavy.

The ‘Inverted Apex’ surround allows a maximum of 1.25-inches of excursion and eliminates excursion distortion while increasing SPLs. The special design of the spider also promotes cooling, as does almost every element of the entire structure, and again, this is aimed at reducing distortion and increasing output. Both subwoofers feature truly massive magnet systems with an integral T-yoke heatsin

Audeze Deckard Headphone Amplifier and DAC
September 13, 2015 Comments Off on Audeze Deckard Headphone Amplifier and DAC
I am not a headphone guy. Maybe I’m too paranoid, I don’t really know. But if I was a headphone guy, the Audeze LCD-X/Deckard combo would be on my A-list. Their combined sound is elegant, supple, rich and rewarding. Or if you prefer normal-people speak, it’s killer. Arthur Grumiaux’s violin on Bach: Complete Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin (CD-rip) sounded just lovely, with ample space for the sounds to decay within. Digitally reproduced violin can bite, at least in my experience, but the Audeze combo had no problem making Grumiaux’s violin sound like a violin instead of a high frequency string grater.
Ultimate Ears Pro Reference Monitor In-Ear Headphones $999 Review
September 13, 2015 Comments Off on Ultimate Ears Pro Reference Monitor In-Ear Headphones $999 Review
” The soundstage of the UERM is phenomenal with a wide-reaching projection of sonic cues in all directions. Out of all of my IEMs, the UERM has enough of a perceived soundstage to rival closed-back headphones and bests even the Heir Audio IEM 8.0 in this regard. ”
Astell & Kern AK Jr review

The good news is that the Jr supports multiple formats including the important high resolution audio ones like FLAC, WAV and AAC. It also supports the DSD audio format created by Philips and Sony that ramps up sampling rates above CD quality music but does invariably mean bigger files sizes.
Margules Audio SF220.15 20th Anniversary Stereo Tube Preamplifier Review
September 12, 2015 Comments Off on Margules Audio SF220.15 20th Anniversary Stereo Tube Preamplifier Review
“The SF220.15 has a nicely extended and refined sounding top-end. I thought it was sweet, not rolled off, not overly detailed, clear but not bright. It gets the timbre and harmonics of the music right. It has a rich a harmonic structure, and while it is a robust sounding preamp, I never found it overly lush or overly romantic. I loved the way voices came to life in my listening room; they had a stunning presence with this preamp in my system.
COSMIC EARS CE5P – REVIEW
September 12, 2015 Comments Off on COSMIC EARS CE5P – REVIEW
” A lot of custom inear companies develop monitors that focus on one particular area like bass or vocals or treble. What I love about Cosmic Ears is that all their monitors are great all-rounders with generally good bass and especially good mids. The CE5P is no different in that regard. CE’s website says the CE5P is “an amazing earphone for a solid performance across the frequency range” and that’s exactly the feedback I gave CE. To be honest I received the CE5P a couple of months ago already. They didn’t even have it on their website back then if I remember well.”
LampizatOr DSD Komputer Review
September 12, 2015 Comments Off on LampizatOr DSD Komputer Review
” There is no rocket science in DSD Komputer. Anybody can, and really should make such for himself. It just takes time and money to buy every part from a different vendor from a different country. First they have to import and stock this stuff in bulk. Pay shipping, customs and duties. Make sure everything matches. Have a skilled IT man put everything carefully together which takes 3 full days and 2 days testing and troubleshooting. Playing test music always with Golden Gate DAC as an ultimate sound benchmark. LampizatOr added the other key elements of good sound – JCAT USB card for audiophile quality output
