Antipodes DS Music Server Review

” I used the DS as a server feeding a number of DACs including my reference Auralic Vega as well as the T+A player and the DS improved the overall sonic performance in every case. I did not try playing music from a NAS since 4TB of storage is plenty for me. If you read my review of the Antipodes DX, you’ll read that I found that a mounted NAS sounded nearly as good as playing back from internal storage. Since VortexBox supports third party apps including IckStream, you can also play from streaming services including Tidal Hi-Fi, which I did, often. Sound quality wise, Tidal sounded just great and I’d add noticeably better than when streaming from my MacBook using the Tidal App.”

AURENDER FLOW DAC/HEADPHONE AMP$1,300 REVIEW
November 25, 2015 Comments Off on AURENDER FLOW DAC/HEADPHONE AMP$1,300 REVIEW
” I used the Flow with a wide variety of earphones from highly sensitive in-ear monitors to my least efficient full-sized headphones, and I was pleasantly surprised that they all worked well. Even with the most sensitive Westone ES-5 there was only the very faintest bit of low-level hiss. At the other end of the efficiency spectrum, the Flow had more than enough power to drive Beyer Dynamic DT-990 600-ohm version well past loud. The Flow is the first headphone amplifier I’ve experienced that didn’t need multiple gain settings to successfully accommodate a full range of headphone options.”

Simaudio 760A Power Amplifier Review
November 24, 2015 Comments Off on Simaudio 760A Power Amplifier Review
” Simaudio also touts the use of an “oversized power supply using a custom proprietary toroidal transformer design.” The 760A has both XLR and RCA inputs, with Simaudio preferring XLR for maximum performance. The 760A, interestingly, has an onboard self-diagnostic system to detect overheating or the presence of DC in the input signal. ”

Noble Audio 6C $1099 Review
November 24, 2015 Comments Off on Noble Audio 6C $1099 Review
“The custom Noble 6C shells are very well designed and quite beautiful in person, pictures simply do not do them justice. The medical grade acrylic used for the shells is of very high quality and gives the 6C a lightweight feel and a glossy smooth finish. Like a fancy hand-blown glass ornament or pipe, the color work just pops right out you and looks even more impressive under the light. The psychedelic nebula-like blend of red, yellow, blue, and violet hues is tastefully done with a metallic texture that adds to the overall effect. The faceplates are seamlessly connected to the shells to form one smooth coherent piece of art. Like a Rothko or Cubist painting, the faceplates contrast the smooth flowing nature of the shells with abstract bands of pink, black, lavender, and white, adding to the energy and emotion of the design. The Wizard certainly lives up to his reputation as an artist and designer as the artwork is simply phenomenal ”

Living Voice Vox Olyimpian

” Living Voice Vox Olympian surely represents a grand statement in our industry. I’ve had some reservations with the Munich High End Audio presentation as room was too smallish. Now, here in Poland the story is very different. This is the room these beauties deserve to really shine. Both audible and aesthetically.”

12 reasons why hi-res audio won’t ever go mainstream
November 23, 2015 Comments Off on 12 reasons why hi-res audio won’t ever go mainstream
” 1) The library is too small. Music first, hardware second, format third. That’s my mantra. Beyond showing that which is technically possible, what point owning an album in hi-res PCM or DSD if one doesn’t dig the music in the first place? For the listener whose tastes extend beyond audiophile-approved recordings the catalogue of hi-res titles, especially in DSD, is dwarfed by its Redbook (CD quality) neighbour.”
