” There’s little sign of low-level noise or hiss that most amplifiers generate – usually heard when there’s no signal and you put your ear next to the tweeter – and this means that the sound has a silent backdrop from which to grow.”

Zeta Zero Venus Picolla Loudspeakers Review

January 12, 2016 Comments Off on Zeta Zero Venus Picolla Loudspeakers Review

” Passing to David Gilmour’s latest offering, ‘Rattle that Lock’, showed the 12” woofer and ribbons at their very best. I don’t normally like large woofers, preferring a smaller bass or two or more in parallel, but these Carbon fibre bass units are very light, and actually don’t move a great amount, so the sound is still quite quick. From the bird atmosphere at the start of the first track “5 am”, to the bass pizzicatos under the string line followed by the electric guitar, to the broken chords on the acoustic guitar that followed, everything was there, and so very clear.”

” Nah warries, mite! I got your solution right here (and mine); go here to tubeaudiolab.com and email the main man in charge, Min. He’ll no doubt give you an expert level build at a very reasonable price because he is in fact an expert builder and you sir most likely are not. Okay I suppose even if you are a non-expert, you can supposedly easily build it yourself in an estimated 10-15 hours, but where’s the fun in that?! Pah! Get people to do those things for you, I say! You’d make a terrible billionaire. ”

Klipsch Reference X6i Review

” Orchestral tracks, like the opening scene in John Adams’ The Gospel According to the Other Mary, sound fantastic through the Reference X6i. Lower register instrumentation is given a lovely, rich presence in the mix—nothing is too boosted, but there’s a little added body that is apparent at certain moments. The bright presence of the higher register strings, brass, and vocals is neither harsh nor overly exaggerated. Just about every element of the frequency range sounds as it should, which makes these earphones a solid choice in this price range for orchestral and jazz music lovers (or anyone else) seeking an accurate mix.”

ELAC DEBUT F5 $559/pr. REVIEW

January 11, 2016 Comments Off on ELAC DEBUT F5 $559/pr. REVIEW

” Let’s get a couple nitpicks out of the way. Neither the B5 nor the F5 is a flawless loudspeaker—although it could be effectively argued that they’re as faultless as a speaker is likely to get at these prices. Nonetheless, the tweeter remains a bit on the dry side, and the upper harmonic range could be more extended and open. Along those same lines, the F5 doesn’t always disappear as a source and there are intimations of tweeter localization.”

Stirling Broadcast SB-88 Speakers $3,450 – REVIEW

January 10, 2016 Comments Off on Stirling Broadcast SB-88 Speakers $3,450 – REVIEW

” While direct comparisons are not the norm at TONEAudio, when a pair of Stirling SB-88s arrived for review, the obvious comparison to the Harbeth Compact 7ES-3 couldn’t be helped. Possessing a nearly identical cabinet size (20.5 by 10.7 by 12 inches for the Harbeths; 19.5 by 10.7 by 11.75 inches for the Stirlings), along with similar drivers and port layouts, these speakers present instant curiosity. Even grill removal on both models calls for patience and an old credit card. Besides veneers, the biggest differences are the flat front flange, sealed back panel, and dual binding posts of the SB-88, and the slightly rounded bevel, screwed-in rear panel, and single set of binding posts of the Compact 7.”
