JOMO AUDIO 6 & 6R Review
January 16, 2016 Comments Off on JOMO AUDIO 6 & 6R Review
” The 6R’s relatively flatter and more neutral bass line drops off somewhat below 50hz and doesn’t display any noticeable mid-bass elevation making it more coherent and possibly the more realistic and less colored of the two bass signatures. The 6R’s bass response also has a tighter and faster response than the Jomo 6 with a shorter decay giving it a drier and thinner edge. Bass head fans will unlikely find favor with the 6R’s bass whereas those into the lighter side of things will appreciate it dropping to the background a little to give way for a stronger mid section. It sort of reminds me a little of the Noble Classic 4 tuning but not quite as bright sounding making it much more palatable for long term listening.”

PLAYBACK DESIGNS IPS-3 INTEGRATED PLAYBACK SYSTEM REVIEW
January 16, 2016 Comments Off on PLAYBACK DESIGNS IPS-3 INTEGRATED PLAYBACK SYSTEM REVIEW
” On reflection, that detail is reflected across the entire audio band. Where the majority of lesser amplifiers and DAC’s seem to excel in certain areas, the integrated playback system seems to master all areas equally, with a seamless top to bottom quality. It stands to reason that when you control the digital signal as it enters the unit, until it leaves as an analogue waveform on its way to the loudspeakers, you can control and limit losses and enjoy a favourable handover from one section of the circuitry to another. Hence, ensuring maximum fidelity.”

Martin Logan Motion 15 Standmount Loudspeakers Review
January 15, 2016 Comments Off on Martin Logan Motion 15 Standmount Loudspeakers Review
” The Motion 15s are a small standmounts and therefore will not produce all the bass of a larger speaker, although my room by its very nature gives a tighter bass response I found the MLs to produce a nice rich bass note – the amount of bass they produce and the way they extend was admirable. Yes the crispness of the snare wasn’t as apparent as say the ATC SCM7s or 11s, but the bass weight, detail and flow of the smoother response was more pleasing to my ears with acoustical music and vocals.

AKG N90Q $1,500 Review
January 15, 2016 Comments Off on AKG N90Q $1,500 Review
” ” We think AKG could have designed a better way of identifying each of these settings though. The headphone emits slightly different sounds when the tone and sound mode settings are switched and it’s easy to get confused between them.”

How Do you Tell The Audio Truth?
January 15, 2016 Comments Off on How Do you Tell The Audio Truth?
“So what do we need for good communication? Well, the first thing you DON’T need is a degree in electrical engineering. And you don’t need an engineering dictionary, either. In order to communicate with people, you need to be able to speak with them (or write to them) in language and in terms that they understand and, for most people, that means the simpler the language, the better. Even well-educated people may not have been educated in engineering or related subjects, and even people with an otherwise great vocabulary may not have a vocabulary that includes technical terms or jargon.”

Balanced Audio Technology Rex II line preamplifier Review
January 14, 2016 Comments Off on Balanced Audio Technology Rex II line preamplifier Review
“It took me a while to figure out just what the Rex II sounded like—what it brought to the show on its own, as distinct from how it affected, or was affected by, the associated components, especially the cables. (This is always a puzzle, to some degree.) I began with my Nirvana interconnects and speaker cables, and, after playing music for a couple weeks, began listening closely to the BAT. It sounded wonderful (details to follow), except for two things: a darkness in the lower midrange that, curiously, didn’t much affect the translucence of higher frequencies, and a slight tubbiness in the bass. Did the Rex II need to break in a while longer? Was something else in my system at fault?”
