Noble 3 Universal Fit In-Ear Monitors Review
February 12, 2016 Comments Off on Noble 3 Universal Fit In-Ear Monitors Review
” Simply put, the Noble 3’s have a nice, tight, and controlled sound. Lyrics are clean and not muffled. Highs are well presented with a very fast attack and long delay were consistent throughout the highs as appropriate within the music. The midrange is clearly the Noble 3s playground, as they are a bit more pronounced in any mix. The lows are solid, but you don’t get the subwoofer oomph that you know are there. Midway through my testing I purchased a set of Comply Foam Isolation Plus Tx-500 replacement tips. I wanted a better fit than I was getting as sweat was causing my right ear IEM to slip out at the gym. These spring-foam tips were recommended, too. The result? Instant bass boost! My soft ear-tips were very comfortable, but didn’t provide much isolation from extraneous sounds”

Devialet Silver Phantom Loudspeakers $2,300 Review
February 12, 2016 Comments Off on Devialet Silver Phantom Loudspeakers $2,300 Review
“Definitive Technology’s Mythos ST-L ($4999.90/pair), however, is a different kettle of fish. Each ST-L has a built-in 1200W amplifier powering its 10” x 6” “racetrack” bass driver, which is augmented by two passive radiators of the same size. The DefTech is a true full-range design that can play ridiculously loud. Its bass level can be tailored via remote control or rear-mounted buttons, and its bass is less punchy than the Silver Phantom’s but better controlled. Like the KEF R900, the Mythos’s bass output remains linear well past the point where the Devialet’s begins to struggle. The Mythos ST-L — my long-term reference — is decidedly a “big room” speaker. But bass aside, I preferred the Silver Phantoms to the Mythos ST-Ls. The Devialets’ stupendous imaging, gorgeous midrange, and punchy, full-range bass at reasonable listening volumes will make them excellent companions in the right space.”

SPL Phonitor 2 – $2,000 Review
February 12, 2016 Comments Off on SPL Phonitor 2 – $2,000 Review
” If only the stereo image wasn’t so unnatural! But that sensation goes away immediately with the Phonitor 2, as soon as you choose “All” in the Matrix, activating the Crossfeed, Speaker Angle and Center settings. Sound detaches itself from the transducers, the stereo image turns more realistic (narrower). All headphones I know have too much in the low frequencies, something that the Phonitor 2 reduces a bit, and while I couldn’t really perceive a clear frontal localization, the inside-the-head sensation is less annoying. Yes, you can even make yourself a realistic idea of the size of a room. So even loudspeaker fans can have some real fun!”

Hifiman Edition X $1,800 Review
February 11, 2016 Comments Off on Hifiman Edition X $1,800 Review
” Finally, I was feeling a little nostalgic and selected an old favourite rock / metal album of mine that I’ve enjoyed since I was in high school in the 1980s: Metallica’s “Black Album”. Enter Sandman was one of the very best introductions of any hard rock sock I know and the bass and rumble really can get your blood flowing. The Edition X’s portrayal of Lars’ drum work was in one word: AWESOME! You feel every thump of the bass drums as if it hits you in the chest and in parallel, you hear all the wonderful details captured in this recording with incredible clarity”

An audiophile master setup
February 11, 2016 Comments Off on An audiophile master setup
” A simple audio set up done by a true audiophile master. If you look closely into these photos, you may discover some of his tweaks and skill. The result is stunning, to say the least. Mind you, this system is placed in a living hall with very little room tune. The presentation is so huge that it actually enveloped the entire space. Each image is clearly defined and in its space. The atmosphere of the recording venue is clearly and naturally presented. I told the owner that this level of performance from this set up is an “ear opener” for me. A truly enjoyable audio system!”

Bowers & Wilkins in Volvo S90
February 11, 2016 Comments Off on Bowers & Wilkins in Volvo S90
” Of course, sound is about far more than just the high notes. The speakers include Bowers & Wilkins signature yellow Kevlar 100mm midrange drivers, visible but protected by a grille designed for optimum acoustic openness. The Volvo S90 features a total of 19 speakers driven by a highly efficient Class D amplifier for a total of 1,400 Watts power. Each speaker is precisely placed and tuned to match the interior acoustics of the car.”
