Sikora Reference Turntable Review

“The M-700u taken alone is a powerful and subtle beast. It’s not quite as emotionally engaging as the best examples of the breed, but considerably more revealing than the majority. I particularly loved the combination of control and fine detail. There is no sense of the amp gripping the speaker, but the layers it uncovers in the mix show that distortion is being kept well at bay. It’s not an iron fist, but its grip is smooth and firm.”

HIFIMAN EDITION X PLANAR MAGNETIC HEADPHONES REVIEW
April 12, 2016 Comments Off on HIFIMAN EDITION X PLANAR MAGNETIC HEADPHONES REVIEW
” I happened to have an appropriate aftermarket balanced cable floating around and was able to attach the Edition X headphones, via said cable, to the balanced output of my OPPO HA-1 headphone amp/DAC. Voila it works, and very well too! The only difference I could discern between balanced and unbalanced mode was just louder operation at a given volume level via the balanced cable.”

SOTM S-MS1000SQ MUSIC SERVER REVIEW
April 12, 2016 Comments Off on SOTM S-MS1000SQ MUSIC SERVER REVIEW
” Ultimately these are four distinctly different options with different target users in mind. Sounds like a cop-out on my part but it’s absolutely true. If I had to break it down I’d say it like so: the Auraliti takes the budget recommendation — at that price it’s up against stuff from Cambridge Audio and Marantz which do a fine job for what they are yet simply aren’t in the same class for audio quality. The only sonic competition might be a used Bryston BDP-1, which was designed by…. the folks at Auraliti. So there you go. The Aurender X100L is best for those who value the app experience, as well as users needing massive storage. You don’t often see 12TB of internal storage on these types of things. Oh, and it sounds fantastic as well. The B.M.C. PureMedia is best enjoyed as the centerpiece of a mixed use media/music setup. For those willing to master its myriad features, it’s a rewarding experience indeed. ”

SONUS FABER OLYMPICA I REVIEW
April 12, 2016 Comments Off on SONUS FABER OLYMPICA I REVIEW
” To start it off, after living with the Olympica 1 for a couple of weeks, I begin to miss the bass response of my previous loudspeakers, the Focal Electra 1027be. The simplicity of being a two-way bookshelf, like the Olympica 1 eliminates the issues of a complicated crossover and allow it to have all the great sound technicalities. Nevertheless, there is always a trade off, and in this case, it would be the low frequency response that would have been there if the cabinet was larger with a couple of dedicated bass drivers. Following that, would be the overall sound character or signature that might be a make it or break it for fellow potential Olympica 1 owners. The speaker carries a leaner sonic signature to allow it to be more versatile with all kinds of music but some may yearn for a warmer presentation.”

TriangleART Symphony SE turntable and Osiris tonearm Review

“As we moved into more and more different kinds of music, I begin to notice something about his demeanor. When listening to the Beatles’ Love album, he was ready to move on to something else more quickly than normal. This also happened when I played a Kronus album. When I asked him about it, he at first, said he just wanted to hear more different kinds of music on the system. Then I put on Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto, and he was locked in again. Then he turned to me and said this combo seemed more sensitive to the quality of recordings than the AMG combo did.”

Hum Pristine Reference Custom In-Ear Monitors Review
April 11, 2016 Comments Off on Hum Pristine Reference Custom In-Ear Monitors Review
” Overall, the HUM Reference CIEMs are extremely dynamic and have the best transparency of any CIEMs here. They may not produce the uppermost and lowermost frequency extremes, yet odds are you might not miss them all that much. A bit of EQ’ing can help to some extent of course. HUM’s Pristine Reference CIEMs may be perfect for sound engineers who are seeking to hear as much as possible within their mix. Personally, I’m now using these CIEMs when mastering, augmented with my fave Noble K-10 CIEMs when I want to enjoy a more musical presentation. Considering the relatively reasonable pricing of $1299 for a pair of very high quality CIEMs, they fall within a comfortable cost zone. If you love accuracy and excellent dynamics plus super-wide soundscape, you owe it to yourself to investigate getting a set of HUM Pristine Reference custom in-ear monitors.”
