Dynaudio Xeo 2 Powered Loudspeakers Review

” was also curious to hear how my passive KEF LS50s ($1499.99/pair) would fare against the Xeo 2s. The LS50’s sculpted cabinet allows it to “disappear” from a room more completely than the Dynaudio, provide more finely delineated imaging, and sound even more spacious. The LS50’s midrange and treble, while ultimately more detailed than the Xeo 2’s, has a slightly relaxed, laid-back quality that contrasts with the Xeo’s slightly forward sound. At low to medium volumes, the KEF’s bass was actually outshone by the Dynaudio’s. The Xeo 2 dug lower and maintained its composure while doing so”

Dear Non-Audiophile

Then there’s this whole audiophile culture phenomenon of reviews. Reading/writing reviews and discussing all facets of high-end audio is how we bond with each other, other than listening to music, of course. I personally have a sick addiction to reading reviews. (Art Dudley and John Darkø, I’m talking about you.) If I couldn’t justify it by working at Stereophile, it would be depressingly unhealthy. But non-audiophile: even if you come across the occasional dry review, the amusingly childish forum post, or the unfavorable naysaying comment, do not let it dissuade you. We are fiercely passionate music lovers at heart, who are all fighting for the same thing.”

Xiao Mi Headphones Review
May 8, 2016 Comments Off on Xiao Mi Headphones Review
” The Mi headphones are extremely easy to drive be it with my Nexus 6 phone’s headphone output or my laptop. I also tried it with the Geekout 1000 alone and with the O2 headamp but decided i like the Geekout 1000 alone better as it is slightly less veiled. With the PC running a sample of 24-bit high definition tracks in native sampling to the Geekout, I tested a few familiar tracks. The Sennheiser HD650 will serve as a reference that the Mi would be pitted against.”

Centrance DACport HD Review
May 8, 2016 Comments Off on Centrance DACport HD Review
” The sound is detailed and engaging, bass respond is good and impactful without any sense of sluggishness. Mid is good and proven when I play Amanda Mcroom’s songs, it is a balanced presentation and definitely has good nuance in the vocal too. The thing that surprised me a lot is the soundstage performance which is really excellent, even if I judging it by desktop standard (not portable) it is still very good, it is an open, wide and shaped soundstage, amazed me really. As far as audio quality goes, I can’t complain anything, the goodness of HD’s sound quality has actually made me less visit my more serious, way more expensive desktop DAC and amplifier too, what a shame, I am getting older and portability (with excellent audio quality) is what I am looking for now.”

TANNOY REVOLUTION XT 8F FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKERS REVIEW
May 8, 2016 Comments Off on TANNOY REVOLUTION XT 8F FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKERS REVIEW
” The XT 8Fs deliver huge dollops of the important stuff when it comes to conveying the essence of one’s music collection. Music flows in a very natural way, and retains a good sense of rhythm, when so coupled with the unconstrained dynamics and speed. That they may overplay their hand at times, while being a little impressionistic when you get down to the finer points, is not really to be deprecated, at this price, and I have to give Tannoy a lot of credit for refusing to play it safe with this design.”

Moon by Simaudio Neo 230HAD Amp/DAC $1,500 Review
May 7, 2016 Comments Off on Moon by Simaudio Neo 230HAD Amp/DAC $1,500 Review
” The Neo was also the best mate I’ve found for the NAD VISO headphones. While not as constantly surprising as the Neo/HiFiMan combo or as sparkling as the Neo/Sony, the Neo/NAD combo produced a full, rich, dark sound that never gave me an uncomfortable moment, and it was far livelier than the NAD with any other amp I’ve plugged it into. All the tracks dominated by voice and acoustic guitar—Jansch, Rosselson, Thompson, Wonder—flowed naturally and irresistibly. The Bowie, always brilliant but sometimes fatiguing, was definitively civilized. I was afraid the Neo and NAD—both of which abhor edginess—would anesthetize the Debussy. Instead they brought it to life with coherent and involving imaging and texture.”

Optoma-NuForce Audio DAC80 D/A Converter Review
May 7, 2016 Comments Off on Optoma-NuForce Audio DAC80 D/A Converter Review
” DAC80 performed remarkably on this track, a clear notch above what I was used to hearing. During the performance there were keys being hit rather hard on the piano, resulting in a sound bordering on angry and certainly not a pretty tinkle on the ivories. But the tonality presented through the DAC80 was smooth but still revealing of the subtle imperfections in the notes that were hammered on by the pianist compared to the sweetness of the gentler notes. The DAC80 held back any sibilance or exaggeration to the middle-highs.”
