GoldenEar Technology Triton Three+ Floorstanding Speaker $2,500 Review

” Oh that glorious tweeter, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. GoldenEar Technology’s HVFR (folded ribbon driver) is glorious. Very fast, clean, and richly extended highs is your reward. Even Drake’s music sounded good(!). Ok, that might be stretching it for my personal preferences in music, yet what I mean is that everything from Kraftwerk to orchestral bells/chimes and the grinding guitar of Steve Vai came through without the dreaded harsh irritants I tent to associate with hard-dome tweeters or lackluster speaker designs. When I say fast, I mean super duper fast come-and-go with nothing overhanging type of highs.”

64 Audio A12 $1999 – Review
June 9, 2016 Comments Off on 64 Audio A12 $1999 – Review
” The A12 passive technology without the balloon never equaled the active technology I heard in Denver. The A12 still played at a lower levels than the other IEM’s at my disposal, but never did I experience the same jaw dropping experience I did as in the first time I heard them in Denver. I still admire the work that Steve Ambrose is doing and it is important. The passive technology did relieve pressure to my ears in listening sessions. I was able to feel no pressure and listen at lower levels and the A12 never failed to deliver the musicality and tonality that I crave in listening sessions.”

Jeff Rowland Continuum S2 Integrated Amplifier $12,250 Review

“The Rowland Continuum S2 impacts repertoire of all types so positively. Voices sound present and pinpoint in space; Sinatra of the 70s has the ciggy rasp at the back of some phrases and Ella swings effortlessly. Miles is Miles, his one note saying more than a thousand others spinning whole albums. It gets all the things you’ll ever need regarding your pre and power needs, but it’s the musical magic it brings to the listening room and its adaptability that’ll have you locking the door behind the dealer with the Rowland remaining in your rack. Very highly recommended. ”

Roon music player software Review Price: $119 for a 1 year subscription, $499 for a lifetime subscription
June 8, 2016 Comments Off on Roon music player software Review Price: $119 for a 1 year subscription, $499 for a lifetime subscription
“The Roon website describes Roon as, ‘The music player for music lovers’, and I can only agree. Just as a fine DAC reveals inner sound details of a digital recording, Roon reveals inner details about the music itself; the listening experience becomes a journey. If you are using a typical music server software, then at the end of the day (or month, or year…) you might become a better software engineer; but if you are using Roon, then you will become a better audiophile, listener, student and musicologist. I could be wrong, but I am guessing that within another year the majority of audiophiles will be using Roon as their reference. Roon is in a league of its own. Very highly recommended.”

1MORE Dual Driver In-ear Headphones – Review
June 8, 2016 Comments Off on 1MORE Dual Driver In-ear Headphones – Review
” To give the bass a real workout, I listened to “Can-Utility and the Coastliners” by Genesis, which is also one of my vocal reference tracks. The subsonic bass was so well articulated that I was driven to test how low it was going, playing with the EQ and Dario Baldan Bempo’s “Non Mi Lasciare”. Not only was the aria chill inducing, I was definitely hearing material below 60 Hz.”

QUAD 2812 ELECTROSTATIC $11,995 REVIEW
June 7, 2016 Comments Off on QUAD 2812 ELECTROSTATIC $11,995 REVIEW
Almost everyone likes a crisp conclusion. But the Quad ESL63 and its variants have been from the start a speaker family that has gone its own way. They have low distortion, among the lowest; they have almost unparalleled coherence and unity of voice; they have an exceptionally uniform radiation pattern and a very low level of resonant coloration. They are also phase-linear, which I did not mention in much detail earlier, but which is known to have subtle but definitely audible positive effects, on transients in particular (try some woodblocks). In these categories they have always been in the very top echelon and they still are. “Alone at the top” is a phrase that one is tempted to use, though it would be a slight exaggeration since others are in the same realm, though not many. No amount of money will buy a speaker that does definitively better the things that the Quads do well.”

PIONEER XDP-100R DAP REVIEW
June 7, 2016 Comments Off on PIONEER XDP-100R DAP REVIEW
” At this point I must admit that I love to experiment. One reason I chose the 100R was for the Android OS. (Google Play Store) Before purchasing the 100R I was listening to music on a Note 3 phone. I found that apps such as Neutron, JetAudio Plus, and Hiby Music could make a phone sound acceptable. For you other “Mad Scientists “out there I highly recommend an alternative player. Neutron and JetAudio Plus are my go to players. To my ears they make a world of difference, and they both function perfectly with the 100R. Not so with the X7. Here’s the Thing, no matter to what extent I EXPERIMENT the 100R retains its overall character. A very transparent, detailed audio player. It’s a beautiful thing.”
