Westlake Audio Tower 5 Loudspeakers $28,000 Review
July 20, 2016 Comments Off on Westlake Audio Tower 5 Loudspeakers $28,000 Review
“The Westlake Audio Tower 5 is not a perfect speaker. Some may find them too small for an extra-large listening room. And then there is the cost, only a little south of 30-grand isn’t the type of purchase that many of us make on impulse. But if one can afford this amount for a pair of made-in-the-USA speakers, I say go for it. For those with a smaller to medium sized listening room, and even for those with a listening room on the larger side, these speakers do so many things right and make me search for things to say negative that I have no choice but to give them my highest recommendation.”

Apple Doesn’t Know Jack, Part 1
July 19, 2016 Comments Off on Apple Doesn’t Know Jack, Part 1
‘ We might surmise that Apple may omit the headphone jack because it would make more money that way. It could sell headphone dongles. Cost to manufacture: $1. Retail price: $20. Profit! Or, a Bluetooth-only connection would instantly obsolete all of the billion zillion 3.5mm wired headphones out there. Apple, conveniently the owner of Beats, could sell lots of Bluetooth headphones. Profit! Or, Beats could sell Lightning headphones. Profit! There are already some some 3rd-party Lightning headphones out there, but they must pay for a Lightning license. ”

PS Audio DirectStream Review
July 19, 2016 Comments Off on PS Audio DirectStream Review
“I’ve been on a huge music-discovery roll of late, listening to lots of old and new music that’s new to me. While I did run through some of my review chestnuts, i.e test tracks, from Tom Waits, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Jordi Savall, John Coltrane, Eric Whitacre, Jimi Hendrix and more, it didn’t take a helluva lot of time to suss out the fact that the DSJ made listening to music fun. This accounts, in part, for my musical sojourning during its stay.

inear stagediver 4s Review
July 19, 2016 Comments Off on inear stagediver 4s Review
” For their universal series, or StageDivers (they do a custom version of this series called Livepro) as InEar like to call them, you have two choices in size and shape for your purchase. Regardless of whether you want 1 through to 4 armatures, you can opt for the standard size or an S model, meaning a smaller housing. So I have the S version of their most packed model, the quad driver, which comes in at €679. Unless you have unholy big ears I would probably opt for the smaller version, I have experience with both their housing sizes and seal just great with both, but why take the risk of something bigger? Oddly Josh with his mini ears found the bigger ones comfortable, finding them to fit akin to a custom.”

Technics EAH-T 700 Headphone $1,199 Review
July 18, 2016 Comments Off on Technics EAH-T 700 Headphone $1,199 Review
“These closed-back headphones weigh a little over a pound (16.6 ounces), but I still found them a pleasure to wear. The luscious earpads and supple headband are largely responsible for the EAH-T700s’ comfort. The pads also do a great job sealing out external noise, so I took the EAH-T700s out to a local park with my Astell & Kern Jr high-resolution music player. That turned out to be a great pairing because the EAH-T700s are more sensitive than any other flagship headphones I’ve tried, so they played louder and were more dynamically alive than the other ’phones with portable players. Pumping up the volume to “11,” the bass slam was truly visceral on my LCD Soundsystem albums. So if you do a lot of listening on the go and crave audiophile sound quality and maximum dynamics, the EAH-T700 would be a great choice.”

NOBLE AUDIO K10 – REVIEW
July 18, 2016 Comments Off on NOBLE AUDIO K10 – REVIEW
“t’s a lot easier to shoot hard-angled objects. Flags can be roughly cut and are easier to position. Reflectors can be smaller, and require less precise angling. I approach each earphone I shoot as a wholly different task with a wholly different studio setup: a custom studio, if you will. But custom set ups have downsides. You can’t suddenly shoot another product. You need to tear down, model, carve, and set up again. The K10C slips right in the ear. It is comfy. And, it should sound the same from ear to ear. I feel that it fits a wide array of music, but it is warmer, softer upper midrange edges make it a better fit for music that’s not trance or EDM.”

Estelon loudspeaker XB £25,000 Review
July 17, 2016 Comments Off on Estelon loudspeaker XB £25,000 Review
” The XB is the big Estelon loudspeaker for a smaller room. And that means the kind of real-world European and Asian listening spaces that might be used with a system of this kind of price and calibre. Put this system in a larger room and the integration between bass and everything else gets a bit hazy and the resulting sound is thin in the upper bass. In that smaller room, XB becomes beautifully integrated and exhibits a complete lack of overhang. There is still a dryness to the overall sound, a characteristic seemingly common to Accuton-based speakers, but the concept of a completely honest set of electronics driving a pair of inherently musical loudspeakers works and works well.”
