FINAL AUDIO DESIGN SONOROUS III REVIEW

” The cable is brilliant, it is extremely resistant to tangles. Final Audio Design has chosen to keep using the dual entry cable design. I think this is a great thing as it just feels more balanced on the head than a single entry setup does. Splitters and jack points are all very robust being made from polished aluminium with good strain reliefs built up on the inside. To attach and detach the cable to the ear-cups is super simple, just insert, twist and they lock securely in place.”

RHAPSODIO IEM CABLE REVIEW

” It might not come as a surprise that I’m pretty infatuated with the Golden, and it ended up being one of my favorite cables. With the right pairing like an iem as the S-EM9 and especially Zeus, it manages to take a world class iem to yet another level with its beautiful tonality. But considering my praise, it might be a bit surprising that it isn’t even one of Sammy’s own favorites. He personally prefers the Silver Litz or Wizard OCC, as his preference is for an uncolored sound with a primary focus on resolution. So I guess that puts everything in perspective: in the end, preference always speaks the final word. And of course, matching is essential.”

ZMF OMNI Review

” I believe the Omni does editorializing. I put on a live Richard and Linda Thompson concert, “You’re Gonna Need Somebody” (16/44 flac, Live at the Aurora Theater, Baltimore, Maryland May 13, 1982). Now, if you’ve ever trolled the internet and downloaded a concert, you know they are often not of pristine sound, and this one is no exception. It has edgy, penetrating highs, and is difficult to listen to at length on much gear (it sounds recorded off the board). While the sharp highs aren’t completely ameliorated, I had to play this concert from the initial American tour of one of my favorite bands EVER to the end. Hearing Richard and Linda center stage sounding as if they were in front of me, with the crack band and Richard’s incendiary guitar left me with a stupid grin on my face ”

” There’s a phase switch too. In our system the unit sounded best when this was set to negative phase – everything just clicked into focus, sonically. It’s system related though, so you may find the opposite to be true.”

ProAc D48R Speakers $10,900 Review
July 16, 2016 Comments Off on ProAc D48R Speakers $10,900 Review
” Like a few other great speakers we’ve auditioned in the $10k–$20k range in the last year, the ProAc D48R in a moderately sized room delivers so much of what you’d expect from a $40k–$60k pair of speakers, there’s hardly a reason to spend more, unless you just have to play music in a massive room at headbanging levels. For all but the most well-heeled audio enthusiast, these will provide a fantastic upgrade from someone currently listening to speakers in the $3k–$5k range and will prove an excellent anchor for a system in the $20k–$80k range. Even when we paired the D48Rs with considerably more expensive electronics, they deliver a command performance.”

Fluance RT81 turntable – Review

“I started with my favorite David Bowie album, “Low,” and that immediately led to Kraftwerk’s “Autobahn.” For a change of pace I popped on Duke Ellington’s “’55” LP. Man, the sheer intensity of this 61-year-old music floored me, Ellington’s men rocked! The RT81 was clean and quiet — it feels like a $400-$500 turntable. I guess you can tell by now I’m impressed”

Focal Sopra No.1 Review
July 15, 2016 Comments Off on Focal Sopra No.1 Review
” The Beryllium tweeter, which on previous Focal models has sounded a bit too lively for my liking, is crystal clear. The mid-range, which Focal has worked so hard on, is like sonic honey oozing into your ears. A listen through Gregory Alan Isakov’s The Weatherman was utterly mesmerising, with that vocal reproduced with such resounding clarity that he could’ve been in the room”
