MONITOR AUDIO GOLD 300 LOUDSPEAKER $5699 REVIEW
August 3, 2016 Comments Off on MONITOR AUDIO GOLD 300 LOUDSPEAKER $5699 REVIEW
” Another important sonic consideration here is the Gold 300’s ribbon tweeter boasting remarkable range (per the specs) versus the Aria 948’s aluminum/magnesium TMF inverted-dome, which can walk a fine line between clean, razor-sharp precision and slightly brighter beaminess in the treble. (Bear in mind these comments are meant to be broad-stroke, at-a-glance comparisons. I recommend doing plenty of listening before buying.) Finally, from an aesthetics angle, they’re certainly both luxurious-looking, no matter which finishes you choose. The Aria 948 is more elegantly austere and slightly understated with its classic wood veneer, while the Gold 300 is more streamlined, slick, and shiny—more along the lines of a sexy car.”

Pro-Ject 6 Perspex SB Review
August 3, 2016 Comments Off on Pro-Ject 6 Perspex SB Review
” The melody is sprightly, with plenty of space surrounding the solo instruments.
As the orchestra sweeps in, we think the effect could be just a bit grander: the strings should sound strong and powerful, and instead they seem a tad reticent through the Pro-Ject.”

JL Audio Dominion d108 Review
August 2, 2016 Comments Off on JL Audio Dominion d108 Review
“Without spoilers: Sadness and Joy accidentally get sucked up a big pipe. Another important soundtrack moment with a large, taut ‘thwobb’ effect that drops deep. The d108 simply delivered all this, with no evidence of its small size, and without a shrug. Even when our protagonist gets in trouble, Islands Of Personality crashing into the abyss, the room-shaking tones got played with clean, full-bodied aplomb.”

IMS Electronics Hybrid Valve Headphone Amplifier Review
August 2, 2016 Comments Off on IMS Electronics Hybrid Valve Headphone Amplifier Review
” Looking at the picture of the circuit board on the IMS website, I suspect the highlighted SMT caps couple the OPA2134 to the output jack. This implies that the opamp is not directly coupled to headphones and the opamp does not have a bipolar supply. This not necessarily a bad thing, but in my opinion direct coupling is better; the best capacitor is no capacitor.”

The Beyerdynamic T5p headphones – Review
August 2, 2016 Comments Off on The Beyerdynamic T5p headphones – Review
” Continuing at home the T 5 p had a fuller and bassier sound than my old T 1 headphones (not the current T 1 (2. Generation). As I listened I felt my T 1 was significantly more transparent and clear, but it lacked some of the T5p’s warmth. If you do the bulk of your headphone listening at home get the T 1, but if you listen on-the-go and at home get the T5p. Both headphones are superb, but do different jobs.”

PASS LABS INT-250 INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER $12,000 REVIEW
August 1, 2016 Comments Off on PASS LABS INT-250 INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER $12,000 REVIEW
“A true reference integrated such as the 180Wpc MBL C51 made it a contest throughout most of the audio spectrum, but the difference in the Pass Labs’ raw power was telling in midrange dynamics and mid/upper-bass grip. In my experience only the Vitus Audio SIA-25 (Issue 218), a pure 25Wpc Class A integrated, has exhibited a more transparent top-end but its relatively low power removes it from the equation with lower-sensitivity loudspeakers.”
