” I set up a pair on stands in my living room, driving them with a moderately powered high quality Class “A” solid state amp and then with my reference Music Reference RM-200 tube amp and used a modestly priced CD player. Yes, the amps are far more costly than the electronics that most likely would get used with these speakers, but they are more likely to show the speakers’ flaws and the sound produced was surprisingly satisfying, “musical” and convincing. So that’s why I say the ELAC B5 is not good “for the money”. They are just good”

“I’m a fan of big band music, and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band is right in my wheelhouse. the track Sing Sang Sung from the album Swingin’ for the Fences, is a stalwart in my playlists. Great music, great musicians, great sound quality. It’s the trifecta about which audiophiles have always dreamed. Pressurizing the room right from the start, the drums are big and bold. The horn section enters, no less bold shortly thereafter. An elegant soprano sax enters the track, seemingly floating through the air. All of this sounds big and loud, but incredibly realistic. Attention kids, this is what real instruments sound like. The soundstage of this track through the Mytek Brooklyn is smack in the middle of the speakers both right to left and front to back. There is a nice sense of height though, especially when the soprano sax comes in toward the middle of the track. Height can be elusive in an audio system and it’s great to hear this from the $1,995 Brooklyn. ”

“Some high-resolution speakers reveal too much about how nasty a ragged recording sounds, so I was especially happy about the way the 805 D3 sounded when I played a $2 “Ventures Golden Greats” LP I bought at a record fair a few years ago. Man, the jangly electric guitars, bathed in massive reverberation played with a kicking rhythm section, sounded awesome. Talk about a wall of sound! The energy was palpable — 50-year-old music still sounded fresh!
