“The TH610 has a real straight from the mixer feel to its soundstage, real up close and personal. Listening to Hoagy Carmichael’s rendition of “Lazy River” (Hoagy Sings Carmichael 16/44.1kHz) I could imagine myself in the mixing booth listening to the live performance. The horns were marginally recessed with the upright bass set slightly apart and the singer front and center inches away.”

“The machined top plate of the turntable plinth reminds me of a vintage Thorens TD-124, both in color and feel. A massive aluminum platter, tonearm and light wood base (it’s also available in black) rounds out the package, complimented by the medium toned leather mat on top of the platter. I’ve seen plenty of ten thousand dollar turntables lacking this level of fit and finish.

“As I’ve said, there are rival products, some of which turn in a different sound, and some of those sounds you might prefer over the DAVE. And there are some digital converters that come so close to the DAVE’s performance that you’d struggle to hear the difference in some settings. But the DAVE will likely show its hand sooner or later. It may be in dealing with a format, or outputting to a super insightful system or headphone, but the DAVE is a tough act to better all round.”
