“Its hard to talk about the proper execution of any speakers design as its underlined by the designer vision, but let brain storm anyway. Ceramic drivers from ground up radiate with certain feeling of non ability to completely escape from their inherited “material” imprint. Quite few upper echelon audio companies already tried and are trying hard to push the bar further, but still with very mixed results. Sonic wise, the final outcome is still farer from what’s expected from such premium pricing loudspeakers. As always, I’m keeping myself open minded and ready to experience the progression or proper partner ing. Back to Volya”

“My conclusion is that all these damned headphones sound good and I wish they were more affordable so I could keep them all. 🙂 Overall the HEK has lost most of that softness that was annoying me previously. It’s now an even more amazingly enjoyable headphone with very few faults. The HEK is very musical but doesn’t match the layering of the Abyss. I actually ended up switching back and forth between the two for most of my listening. I couldn’t really decide…which was a big step from putting the Abyss in another league in my shootout a couple years ago”

“It was hard to escape the sheer impact of balanced harmonic richness even from the first notes strike. There was something utterly different in the way that Elysium managed to portray the notes. With complexity and in absence of unwanted sonic artifacts cluttering.”

“Finally where I would never have mounted a premium cartridge to the original 1200, because of its general lack of resolution, this is now a welcome addition to the current model. Upgrading the standard issue Technics head shell with something from Ortofon or another specialty manufacturer, and some better head shell wires (in this case, a set of silver ones from Furutech) takes it all to the next level.”

“The ability to place instruments and voices in a believable space and to deliver exceptionally rich tonal color was just as evident on small-scale classical music. Hilary Hahn’s duets with pianist Cory Smythe on In 27 Pieces: The Hilary Hahn Encores (LP [Deutsche Grammophon 00289 479 6664], CD [Deutsche Grammophon B0019103-02]) are a case in point. While the LP was released after the Yvettes had arrived, the CD had been out long enough for me to listen to it on other speakers in my home and still others in showrooms and at shows. My initial reaction to this disc was of mild disappointment, with Hahn sometimes sounding uncharacteristically harsh and the piano parts lacking a sense of integration and conversation with the violin.”

Bryston BDA-3 DAC (Digital-to-Analog Converter) Review

” Bryston’s flagship DAC rendered Mosshart’s vocals with a stunning clarity and a knife-edged tension that was both captivating and, at times, un-nerving. With songs like ‘Hang You from the Heavens’, ‘I Cut like a Buffalo’, ‘Treat Me like your Mother’, ‘Pony’, and ‘Will there be Enough Water?’, the BDA-3 created an immense amount of sonic detail across the entire frequency spectrum. And, thankfully, this detail was harmonically accurate, while not causing the typical ringing high-band listening fatigue which most solid state DACs induce.”

“MQA continues to muscle through the audio world with yet another coup in the digital-audio player market. Audirvana Plus, the well-loved desktop music application for Mac OS has just announced that their latest Plus 3 player includes MQA software unfolding of the MQA origami codec. This type of MQA integration seems to be the same level of authentication as Tidal is offering in their desktop application. Audirvana Plus 3 player also implements a blue or green light for confirmation that the file is delivering an authorized sound recognized as identical to the source recording.”

” The Ultimate Ears always sounded in control and a bit more articulate, but also more reserved when it came to bass reproduction. There were a few more musical details revealed with the Ultimate Ears, as well as a bit more soundstage depth. But with less bass dynamics, I once again found the Ultimate Ears to not be quite as engaging as the W60 with this track. The W60 was just a bit more fun to listen to here.”
