“Overall presentation is smooth and easy on the ear while maintaining the level of clarity and details. Now I have to say AF180 is really well tuned here, even when I like sparky highs I have to admit a bit more energy would have made it slightly uncomfortable for those who don’t love spark in their treble.”

ELAC’s Uni-Fi BS U5 $750 Review

“Initial impressions peg the U5 as a fast and nimble performer; quick on their feet but packing a lighter overall punch than the LS50. One might also mis-conclude that the ELAC’s bass goes deeper. That is, until a run through Shed’s The Final Experiment reveals it as instead better separated and more clearly defined than via the little red roosters.”

” Just before I packed up the ATH-A2000Z, I listened to Van Morrison’s newly expanded live album, It’s Too Late to Stop Now Vol II, III, IV, with Tidal streaming lossless files delivered to my iPhone 6S. The ATH-A2000Z was super-easy to drive, so the 6S could play the ’phones nice and loud. Morrison was never better live, and the Audio-Technica ATH-A2000Z left no doubt about that!”

“Cymbals and other percussion have bite, and bass at 40 Hz was solid in my fairly small listening room. The opening of Strauss’ Ein Heldenleben was rich and redolent leaving me very impressed with not only the bass performance but its resolution. And just like the midrange and the treble, it was coherent with each tessitura.”

Audeze’s Sine Deluxe $449 – Review

“As a wrap, I could tell you that the Audeze Sine sound great. But that only means something if you also know that, for music on the go, where albums from Grandaddy or British Sea Power butt up against external noise, I prefer stronger flavours. Here in central Berlin, Audeze’s tandoori beats out Sony’s korma.”

Accuphase C-3850 Preamplifier and P-7300 Power Amplifier $43,500 Review

” When combined, the C-3850 and P-7300 become the heart of a soulfully solid, bottom-up sounding reproduction system. The solidity of the presentation from multiple sources (music and source equipment) appeared to be palpable in all cases. One of my first observations was the more forceful drive and vigor the Accuphase pair presented. Chris Isaak’s “Kings of the Highway” from the Heart Shaped World LP had the characteristically saturated soundstage it always has but with more expansion of the soundstage in all directions. Additionally, the added presence in the bass and lower midrange gave the music perceptively more powerful drive.”

SHURE SE846 REVIEW

“Of course the most important part of any audio gear is of course the sound and from the very first moment I put the SE846 in my ears I have barley been able to keep this stupid grin of my face. These are without a doubt the rolls royce of in ear universal earphones so much so that they even manage to compete with full size orthodynamic headphones I have heard. ”

Air Tight Bonsai AL-05 Mini-Monitor Review

“I feel compelled to share one more notable listening example: Analogue Productions’ superb 45rpm reissue of Muddy Waters’ Folk Singer, which sounded terrific with the Bonsais, “Good Morning School Girl” and “You Gonna Need My Help,” in particular. The rapid-fire attacks of Clifton Jones’ snare were suitably snappy; Muddy’s vocals were realistic and reproduced with the slight reverb I’m accustomed to hearing; the Bonsais even recovered some studio ambience, drawing me deeper into a classic taped more than half a century ago. Imaging was also impressive, as was the resolution of the details and textures of these spare arrangements—the guitar strings’ subtle squeaks, the growls of Muddy’s voice.”

Quad 2812 electrostatic speaker Review

“The Quad is comparatively limited in terms of colossal output. A 90dB decibel level is attainable for the Quad but compression begins to set in incrementally. The Quad’s aforementioned point-source capability, therefore, does not lend itself to excessive loudness but judicious enjoyment. There is nay a speaker I know of, capable of such extended frequency range and instrument dimensionality in such economical physique. At medium listening level, the tonal realism of instruments was so remarkable that blasting it would’ve disrupted the intricate experiencing process. The Quad ESL’s lower horizontal stance also delineated a lower soundstage from normal listening positions, hence the 2nd floor Balcony seat’s perspective. I can see the reason people stacked their older Quads.”
