QUESTYLE AUDIO CMA400I $799 – REVIEW
June 21, 2017 Comments Off on QUESTYLE AUDIO CMA400I $799 – REVIEW
” As for sound quality, it leaves little to be desired, it has excellent tonal balance and exemplary bandwidth and detail. The low frequency extension and control is a must hear to believe proposition. While it does not veil or sweeten the mid range, neither does it add anything to it, meaning it has a musicality that makes even listening to headphones that fall out on the bright or harsh side can be a pleasant and eye opening experience. While I attribute a great deal of the performance of the DAC to the amplifier section, and the wonderful ears of the designers at Questyle, you would be hard pressed to find one that has greater detail and low frequency performance.

Meridian Audio in the Jaguar F-Pace SUV – Review
June 21, 2017 Comments Off on Meridian Audio in the Jaguar F-Pace SUV – Review
“Tuning the F-Pace happened in a number of stages. We had access to a production-representative vehicle and we meticulously measured its sonic characteristics. The data was then fed into our proprietary analytical software to identify any unwanted resonances, and then we defined and implemented a very subtle and transparent filtering process to ensure that all frequencies were equalized in amplitude and consistent in decay. We use a very similar process with our home-audio room-correction technology.”

Magico Q5 loudspeakers Review
June 20, 2017 Comments Off on Magico Q5 loudspeakers Review
“The four-way, sealed-box design includes Magico’s new MBe-1 beryllium-dome tweeter plus four drivers with Nano-Tec cones. The Beryllium has a high ratio of stiffness to mass, and breakup modes far beyond the audioband. The Nano-cones, designed by Magico and assembled from parts sourced from around the world, consisted of a 6″ midrange, a 9″ midbass, and two 9″ woofers. None has a dustcap, and all feature sandwiches of Rohacell foam coated with carbon nanotubes to produce unusually stiff yet lightweight cones claimed to behave pistonically within their operating bandwidths.”

GOLD NOTE PH-10 PHONO PREAMPLIFIER REVIEW
June 20, 2017 Comments Off on GOLD NOTE PH-10 PHONO PREAMPLIFIER REVIEW
“I guess it comes down to the “simplified” recording techniques and stand out performers. Anyhow, I’m uberly enjoying such records and this particular Nathan Milstein record partnered with Gold Note PH-10 exhibited surprisingly sparkling and vivacious sonic composition. It instantly introduced a grand connection with midcingulate cortex and the anterior insula instead of pursuing Lateralization of left brain functional behavior.”

AVM EVOLUTION A3.2 INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER $6,000 REVIEW
June 20, 2017 Comments Off on AVM EVOLUTION A3.2 INTEGRATED AMPLIFIER $6,000 REVIEW
“Sonically however, I found that there are more similarities than not, with both offering up a clean, wide soundstage.
I dare say for digital sources, the NAD wins for ultimate transparency, however, the M2 has very limited connectivity for analog sources and unlike the AVM, cannot be upgraded with modules.”

New Astell And Kern Flagship – The A&ultima SP1000
June 19, 2017 Comments Off on New Astell And Kern Flagship – The A&ultima SP1000
” From the presentation it even appeared that AK has already put a hard squeeze from a digital audio tech standpoint into the players, opting for a renewed focus on amplification and analog improvements to further the possibility of improved sound quality. The new SP1000 does offer a few perks across the board however. Vs. the AK380 the new flagship offers an Octa-core CPU, updated AKM chipset (AK4497EQ dual DAC) larger screen and USB 3.0 with faster charging. Their will also be a frame material option of either stainless steel or copper.”

47 Laboratory 4739 Fudou power amp $10,000 Review
June 19, 2017 Comments Off on 47 Laboratory 4739 Fudou power amp $10,000 Review
“The Fudou attained superb definition reminiscent of the Gaincard S in driving the TAD and displayed a tonal affinity towards the likes of Electrocompaniet, slightly soft and impressively spacious. Pushing the Fudou to beyond 90dB peak sound pressure twelve feet away in my listening chair induced subversive compressions. Asking the Fudou to drive the TAD-E1 into party-level ruckus will be improper.”

Schiit’s Jotunheim $400 Review
June 18, 2017 Comments Off on Schiit’s Jotunheim $400 Review
“For its five-hundred dollar asking price (US$399 if you don’t want the DAC or phono module), it’s unlikely there exists a headphone amplifier that can compete with the Jotunheim’s combined audible performance and feature set. The MK2 Soloist from Burson sells for US$499 but it isn’t modular or balanced. iFi Audio’s balanced iCan Pro isn’t far off two grand. We might journey to Audio-gd in China for their 8 watt NFB-1AMP muscle amp (US$450).”

Qobuz Sublime+ Review
June 17, 2017 Comments Off on Qobuz Sublime+ Review
” Yet Sublime+ neuters the album’s bass presence somewhat, rendering what should be an implacably hard-hitting recording a little tentative. Kendrick Lamar may be many things, but ‘tentative’ isn’t usually one of them.
