FIIO X7 MARK II REVIEW
September 11, 2017 Comments Off on FIIO X7 MARK II REVIEW
“Staging wise the X7II combined with the AM3a provides better detail and dynamics at the very low end and superior air and articulation in its brilliance region. The linear response curve in the midbass to lower mids also provides a bit more space and clarity to instrumental passages.”

Lamm LL1.1 Signature Dual-Mono Preamplifier $45,590 Review
September 11, 2017 Comments Off on Lamm LL1.1 Signature Dual-Mono Preamplifier $45,590 Review
” For a long time, I wished audio components would go on a high-calorie diet and put some meat on the bones. High resolution audio is often thin and hard-edged. Well, maybe that is changing. For one thing, the audiophile press is talking non-stop about tonal saturation, fullness, and larger scale in a positive way these days.”

Origin Live’s Calypso Turntable and Encounter Tonearm Review

“Bass response is closely tied to this ability as well. When auditioning some of my favorite EDM and prog tracks, this deck never feels thin. Bass is solid and well controlled without any lack of detail. In my main system with two REL 212 subwoofers, the OL table and arm worked best on top of the Grand Prix Audio rack, or wall mounted. As part of the system in room two, with a pair of Quad 2812s, this was not an issue at all. This is no knock at the OL, any of the unsuspended tables I use (VPI, Technics, Soulines, and Rega) all need the benefit of this rack or wall mount in room one.”

MAGICO S1 MK II FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER £20,998 REVIEW
September 10, 2017 Comments Off on MAGICO S1 MK II FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER £20,998 REVIEW
“Magico is at the bleeding edge of technological development, but it might need to slow that pace down a little in future. The S1 became the S1 Mk II in around three years, and there is nothing in the way of an upgrade path. The improvements made in this version change are major, and in most loudspeaker brands those major changes would occur every five to eight years. It seems counter-intuitive to suggest slowing technological progress, but those who buy products with one eye on their resale value will find such a rapid churn of design difficult to reconcile. I’d really want the jump from Mk II to Mk III to be as substantial as the one from Mk I to Mk II, but I think I’d prefer to see that product in 2022 rather than 2020. But that’s Magico, for you: uncompromising in every respect.”

VIENNA ACOUSTICS BEETHOVEN BABY GRAND SYMPHONY EDITION LOUDSPEAKERS

I was expecting refinement and the sort of poise that a loudspeaker of this pedigree would deliver. In this regard, the Beethoven Baby Grands don’t disappoint, but there’s more to these Austrian floorstanders than simply sounding divine with a well-recorded piano concerto or laid-bare acoustic material.”

MCINTOSH D1100 2-CHANNEL DIGITAL PREAMPLIFIER REVIEw
September 9, 2017 Comments Off on MCINTOSH D1100 2-CHANNEL DIGITAL PREAMPLIFIER REVIEw
“I realize that the more I wrote about the music I listened to, the less I talked about the McIntosh D1100 2-Channel Digital Preamplifier. That is really the highest praise I can give to an audio component. Listening to quality music through the D1100 brought me a level of involvement and joy that I have not experienced in a long time. I wasn’t thinking about the playback gear, I was simply getting lost in the sound. I had forgotten just how good two-channel music can be when played through a top-notch piece of gear and the D1100 did nothing to pull me out of my sonic dreamland. From a sound quality perspective, the McIntosh D1100 delivered everything I could possibly want; amazing bass, a beautiful midrange, detailed and airy treble, stunning imaging, and an expansive soundstage”

AUDEZE SINE DX $600 REVIEW
September 9, 2017 Comments Off on AUDEZE SINE DX $600 REVIEW
“Lower mids on the DX are a little dipped though by all accounts not quite as dipped as the SINE. Instrumental clarity is good with excellent control on any bass bleed but it is not the fattest or richest sound out there. Guitar work will sound clean and with good pace but they are not front and center sitting slightly more behind vocals which benefit from an elevated 800Hz-2k response curve.
“The staging is more intimate than expansive with instrumental positioning behind vocals and slightly on the lean side with that lower mid dipping. However, this does help prevent bass bleed and keeps the lower mid presentation relatively clean.”
