“. Upscaling audio isn’t anything new but most implementations are rudimentary and sound contrived. The Chord Blu Mk. 2 presumably applies a holistic waveform algorithm to determine how those data points are generated (not just based upon a couple of sample points at a time) and with this, we should get the most analog digital sound EVER. Although the data points are technically artificially recreated, hopefully, what we hear is what we should’ve been hearing from our recordings.”

All true, but for sound quality the AB-1266 is still my reference. Compared to that one the Susvara sounds like a more conventional headphone, albeit one with superior midrange, so vocals and acoustic instruments sound more natural, and imaging focus is more precise than what I heard from the AB-1266. The Susvara is also more comfortable than the AB-1266 or any full-size Audeze headphone.”

“I tried first playing tunes back using the Tidal interface alone, and found that the sound I was getting wasn’t quite up to par with what the A10 offered. Next, I tried streaming through Pure Music (which can be done using that software’s Playthrough Audio Driver (PAD) option), and indeed the sound smoothened up a bit. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get the Master MQA files to play nice with Pure Music, so I was limited to playback of regular content. The 44.1 kHz files actually sounded quite nice via Tidal streamed through Pure Music, giving me perhaps some of the best sound my digital setup has offered to date. Even so, I couldn’t quite capture that last little bit of magical “flow” that I described before that made listening so pleasurable via the Aurender A10.”

“The Amati Traditions continue their strong performance on the Shostakovich Piano Concerto No. 2 on the same disc. The drive and energy are tremendous, the orchestra sounds fast and dynamic. The piano sound is warm but articulate, with a gorgeous singing tone. But there is also room for improvement. The image does not fill the full width between the speakers and the strings feel somewhat overripe and smoothed over. The Carmel 2s in the same location throws a continuous image and the strings have much more texture.”
