“This is the tough part for reviewers. You listen to a lot of stuff including the ones that cost over 1000$, and when you receive something like this one after that, it’s very hard to adjust your ears and your brain to this level. We can’t come out and say “I only review high end gear from now on” like some other people do, as we have a responsibility for the people who prefer spending less money to audio. So we have to be fair to a product like this, and evaluate its sound in its own segment. There should always be a reference point in your mind, among different price ranges.”

Monitor Audio Silver 200 Loudspeakers $1500 Review

“The Monitor Audio Silver 200 and Revel Performa3 F206 are both excellent speakers for their prices, and it’s unlikely that anyone shopping in the price range of one would consider anything in the range of the other. The Silver 300 would be a more natural competitor for the F206, if not on the basis of price, then at least in the similarities of their sizes and driver configurations. Within its physical limits, the Silver 200 held up well against the Performa3 F206, offering a high degree of transparency, precise imaging, and punchy, well-controlled sound. However, as good as the Monitors were, the Revels are still the best-sounding speakers I’ve had in my listening room. It would have been quite an accomplishment for the Silver 200s to have outperformed them at less than half the price.”

Roon Labs Nucleus+ music server Review

“Who knew Jason would have the B-52’s in his library? “Rock Lobster,” sourced from Tidal and the NUC, had excellent impact, with good low-frequency extension. Streaming the same track from Tidal via the Nucleus+, perhaps there was a touch more authority in the bass. Perhaps. With “Every Day I Have the Blues,” from the Morrison-DeFrancesco album, the sound through the NUC was less authoritative, less open. However, the comparison was unfair: Though both versions were 16/44.1, I was streaming from Tidal with the NUC, and playing a WAV file from local storage with the Nucleus+. Nevertheless, while changing to the Tidal stream with the Nucleus+ reduced the difference between the servers, the Nucleus+ sounded still a tad tidier.”

“With effortless concentration they ride the piece’s undulating waves of techno beats, taut and punchy and punctual through the 3050i’s woofer. The Q Acoustics’ ability to anchor the deepest, most foreboding notes allows them to communicate threat and peril effectively.”

“It also demonstrates good handling of rhythms. The tingling strums of the track’s opening guitar shimmer onto the soundstage snappily, and it’s not long before our foot starts tapping along. As the drumbeat starts, the Cowon Plenue J delivers it all in an enjoyable, tightly timed presentation.”

SENNHEISER HD 660S REVIEW

“Overall, the Sennheiser HD 660S represents a stronger, and arguably better version of its predecessor, the HD 650. It retains the smooth signature but imparts more spirit into it this time around. This change isn’t for everyone, but I found it for the better as it gave songs and genres that previously needed that oomph the ability to shine; it was that little bit that was missing that the 660S brings to the table.”

Final Audio E5000 Review

“I use the earhooks, because I really don’t like straight-hanging cables. I find them all so terribly microphonic, and the IEMs fall out easier. A serious danger with the E5000, since it’s kinda big and kinda heavy. Furthermore, this cable is rather stiff, and not particularly light. The earhooks are the only things that make the wrap-around possible. But you can discard the hooks and wear them in whichever fashion you choose.”

PrimaLuna DiaLogue Premium HP Review

“My experiences with the HP versions of the DiaLogue Premium amps have further solidified my opinion of this brand, which is that these really are excellent amplifiers that are widely applicable. One can do better, but it will cost multiples to beat them on all accounts. In case of these PrimaLunas, big transformers mean great bass control and lots of slam, but this does seem to come at the expense of some refinement. The Audio Research Ref75SE, with its smaller transformers, on the other hand, has an excellent low-level resolution but not nearly the fullness of sound, the dynamic reserves or the amount of slam that even the smaller PrimaLuna DiaLogue Premium amp has, let alone the HP version”
