Carver Silver Seven-t monoblock power amplifier Review

“As for having the transfer function of a tube amplifier, I have yet to hear tubes that impart the affronting sonic characteristics introduced by the Silver Seven-t. Whether the review samples do indeed have a transfer function identical to the Silver Seven is an interesting question. If they do, then either an identical transfer function does not guarantee sonic duplication, or the tubed Silver Sevens do not sound good. I seriously doubt both of these explanations. On the other hand, if Stereophile’s review samples did not have the identical transfer function of the Silver Seven, then serious questions arise about the credibility of matching transfer functions in a mass-produced product.”

Dali Callisto 6 C Wireless Loudspeakers $5,747 Review

“The sense of effortlessness the speakers managed with Aphex Twin carried over when I streamed a high-res version of “Whole Lotta Love” from Qobuz. This 50-year-old Led Zep track sounded shockingly fresh on the Callistos: Jimmy Page’s guitar was raw and aggressive, and the combined slam of bass guitar and drums had a dynamic, propulsive effect. Listening to the psychedelic mid-section, stereo-panned effects came across in a vivid and dramatic manner. I was also surprised at how loud the system could play: with volume set to mid-point, there was more than enough level to fill my relatively large listening room.”

ELIPSON PRESTIGE FACET 24F FLOORSTANDING LOUDSPEAKER REVIEW

”
The Elipson Prestige Facet 24F is an unusual loudspeaker in today’s market. It has more bass than most and is happy to play at higher levels than the competition. Its tonal balance doesn’t seem entirely even but this does little to undermine the appeal of what it plays. Those looking to unwind with their music will find a lot to like, especially if they enjoy a bit of home cinema too. ”

Naim ND5 XS 2 media player Review $3495

“Pairing a user-supplied smartphone with the Naim’s Bluetooth input option isn’t covered in the Quick Start Guide. Through trial and error, I found that getting my iPhone to communicate with the Naim depended on my turning off and then turning on all associated products and functions in just the right order. And although Naim’s implementation of Bluetooth sounded no worse than any others I’ve heard, it was nevertheless not worth the trouble: As with just about every other Bluetooth-as-serious-audio-source effort I’ve experienced, the sound quality was to Tidal as soft-serve ice cream is to the real thing, only filled with slightly more icy particles. Don’t bother.”

Woo Audio WA33 Fully-Balanced Headphone Amp/Preamp Review $7999

”
Before I started writing this review, I said to myself that there really wasn’t much of a reason to break down how this component performed in different categories of its frequency response, bass, midrange, and treble. And yet after discussing some of its other sonic traits, I did just that. This might be due to the presence of its large tubes on the top of its cabinet, which aided in giving the Woo Audio WA33 what I can only describe as an organic sound, one that reproduced musical instruments and voices as many would describe as palpable. It was able to take the program material and present it simply as a music – often very dramatically – with a seemingly unlimited amount of somehow letting us in on the intentions of those who made the music on the recording. I suppose by describing its bass, midrange and treble response I could explain to others how it could do this, mostly because I don’t understand why the Woo Audio WA33 performs as spectacularly as it does. And with that, I’ll give a short description of its treble response.”

Pure Fidelity Harmony Turntable Review

“My main goal was to introduce a new model that would add to the strengths of the Eclipse and Encore, improving on their existing characteristics, not changing them. I am very proud of the aesthetics of our turntables, but as beautiful as they are I will only add or change components if they improve the sound.
Adding the solid 18 lb isolation base has improved what was already a very quiet turntable. It is a unique design. The table’s feet sit inside the machined pockets of the platform giving superb isolation due to its weight and an additional set of feet.”
