CAMBRIDGE AUDIO CXN V2 NETWORK STREAMER REVIEW $899 Review

“Few things are sweeter than the Toronto Raptors beating the Golden State Warriors in game 6 of the finals. Listening to them through the CXN via the RX2s made it all a bit better. My wife and kids just happened to be away for the last few games of the series and I had the house to myself for the finale. Our cable box upstairs is usually connected to the digital input of the CXA60, so I decided to connect to the digital input of the CXN V2 instead. Come game time, I had armed myself with a spot of whiskey, a Rotisserie Chicken dinner with fries (Swiss Chalet for Canadians in the know, don’t judge me) and had the volume turned up good and loud. Turns out there wasn’t an audible difference from the CXA to the CXN V2. The resulting sound was great, especially the crowd chants which had a 3-dimensional feel and I sometimes forgot that I was listening to two-channels versus my larger home theater system which we normally watch games through. As the Raptors finally ended the ‘Warriors Dynasty’ I was fully immersed in the action and hadn’t fiddled with the sound for a few hours even though news coverage of the insane post-game celebrations. Gryphon Audio Designs • Kodo Loudspeaker System $390,000 Review
August 2, 2019 Comments Off on Gryphon Audio Designs • Kodo Loudspeaker System $390,000 Review
“That alone is significant enough, but it makes a lot of sense when you actually consider the speaker itself and just what it offers, from its remarkable bandwidth and dynamic range, to its striking appearance and engaging musical qualities. Then there’s the kilowatt of power residing in each bass tower, delivering not just bandwidth but remarkable low-frequency definition and transparency. Finally, there’s the sheer physical reality of the Kodo. Even amongst the world of high-end flagship speakers, this one is big, heavy and loaded with hardware — something that, having unpacked and repacked the review pair (not without help), I can certainly attest to. Factor in all those considerations and it’s hard to disagree with the notion that this is a lot of speaker for the money. How much money? Well, that depends. In the US the Kodo system will set you back a rather weighty $390,000. But in Europe the asking price is considerably less — €260,000 to be exact, a number that makes this enormous, four-cabinet, part-active system just a little more than a pair of Wilson Audio Alexandria XLFs or Focal Grande Utopia III Evos. That’s what leads me to the faintly bizarre conclusion that the Gryphon Kodo actually represents something of a bargain, especially when compared to much of the competition.”

Keces S3 DAC/Headphone Amplifier/Preamplifier Review
August 2, 2019 Comments Off on Keces S3 DAC/Headphone Amplifier/Preamplifier Review
“The Keces Audio S3 really does everything one might ask of it, and does it impressively well. While it can be used as a quality stand-alone headphone amp, a highly resolving dedicated DAC, or even a simple but excellent preamp, I believe the biggest value comes when combining multiple functions. The headphone listener who wants a single-box DAC/amp solution capable of driving pretty much any full-size headphone should give it serious consideration. And if said user might also integrate speakers into the mix – either active monitors or passives with a separate amp – they will find the S3 to be a superb control center for the entire setup. It satisfies my previously mentioned criteria of features plus sound quality, in a compact and well built package, for a price that is surely advantageous compared to buying separate components. For that, the S3 is enthusiastically recommended.

Amazon Echo Link Streaming Amp Review
August 2, 2019 Comments Off on Amazon Echo Link Streaming Amp Review
“The Amazon Echo Link Amp is a good way to bring both music streaming and Alexa’s convenience to a pair of passive speakers. Still, Amazon could have added more features like a remote, power switch, and better input selection to make it a total winner. But if you find yourself regularly listening to music through a basic smart speaker, the Link Amp offers a compact alternative that’s big on sound quality.”

Musical Fidelity M2si Integrated Amplifier Review
August 1, 2019 Comments Off on Musical Fidelity M2si Integrated Amplifier Review
“The first thing I noticed on powering up the M2si was the low end. A relatively low damping factor of 36 means the M2si lacks the bottom end control of some rivals, but it makes up for it by putting that heavy supply of current to good use. The low end is deep and authoritative. Musical Fidelity have always had a tendency to produce huge muscular amps capable of demonstrating unflappable composure, even at high levels with demanding source material and driving a demanding load. While the M2si doesn’t quite possess the grunt of its bigger siblings, it has the same air of confidence and can unleash thunderous quantities of low end that is quite unusual for an amp of this price and rated power. With relatively high amounts of gain on tap, it only takes a nudge of the volume knob to get sensitive speakers rocking. And the M2si can get plenty loud with a more demanding load while showing no signs of strain or distortion.
Low end aside, the sound remains pleasingly neutral across the frequency spectrum with a slight tuning towards pace and excitement rather than absolute accuracy. The sound you’ll get from the M2si depends largely on your speakers and room, rather than the character of the amp itself. There’s plenty of detail and noise levels are low, with background noise only becoming evident at the top of the volume scale which it is highly unlikely you will ever reach. Detail is excellent at the top end and through the mids, and respectable at the low end though it does become a bit vague and blurred especially if you’re pushing larger drivers.”

EMPIRE EARS WRAITH REVIEW
August 1, 2019 Comments Off on EMPIRE EARS WRAITH REVIEW
“So many new flagship products have been released in the last twelve months, others however have stayed at the top of their respective lines for a while now. I know the current competition all concentrates on the e-stat race, but I want to take a look at the other top offers from Empire Ears first, then dive into the competition. Hopefully this little segment here helps you, the reader, understand better what I hear. After all we do hear things a little different, and putting Wraith in relation to other IEMs might do the trick to get a better picture yourself.”
