Of course, in absolute terms the JBL 4305P Studio Monitor offer a lot for very little in a hi-fi system context – built-in access to a world of music streams, the opportunity to add external sources, and a bigger, clearer, punchier sound than anything else we’ve heard out of a two-box system at this price level. For many people, this will rightfully be enough system… until the inevitable upgrade bug kicks in, that is.
The 4305P may be some sonic refinement and dynamic expression short of being heralded ‘miniature marvels’, but they’re much closer to that description than that of ‘try-hard do-it-alls’. Here we have yet another likeable set of JBL speakers, then.

That allows it to deliver remarkable presence with Emily Barker’s A Dark Murmuration Of Words set, with its stripped-back instrumentation, or to slam through the 2020 remaster of The Stones’ Doo Doo Doo Doo (Heartbreaker) from Goats Head Soup, with its chopping guitars, ripe brass and backing vocals and plaintive guitar solo. There’s exceptional clarity here, but never any sense that it’s being forced on you, so well integrated is the sound.
Used with speakers not exactly known for being bass-shy – in this case an elderly PMC OB1 and Neat’s Iota Xplorer (HFC 435), using transmission-line and isobaric bass architecture respectively, the Model 30 shows its ability to not just deliver a lot of bass, but also start and stop it smartly, while the amp is just as impressive with LPs spun in through that phono stage as it is with multi-DSD content streamed from network storage.

I was first introduced to Infigo Audio (based in BC, Canada; Infigo means “impressive” in Latin) by hearing their Method 3 Class A monoblocks ($55,000/pair) at the home of Mike Levy (CEO/Founder of Alta Audio). Beautiful and unusual looking, they were gold-coloured blocks with an open top but with a clear glass protective cover, revealing the electronics inside with calming blue light. I was seriously impressed by the sound—but intimidated by the price. There was something new to my ears that was unique. I was intrigued.

The Ode to Laura cable enhances all details. It adds a sheer amount of resolution throughout the entire frequency spectrum from top to bottom. Bass has higher definition, better speed and articulation. But unlike other copper cables, it doesn’t add anything to it. Laura doesn’t give a bigger body or more weight to the lows. It only delivers speed and precision, but that at the highest possible rate.
In the mids Laura comes across with a smooth sound, making vocals become airier and softer. It adds a layer of an organic touch, making everything sound a bit more Class-A-analogue. It doesn’t oversatuate the midrange, but still adds this bit of warmth, that makes music a little more enjoyable.
With the added resolution and details it’s no wonder, that Laura also takes things up a notch when it comes to imaging sharpness and sound-stage positioning. It makes it easier to pin-point specific instruments by clearly separating all musicians and tones from each other. Even in big orchestras and complex or busy structures Laura delivers masterfully.
