Audiovector QR 7 $6500 Review

Their low frequencies are tuned by a downward firing port. This port exits near the front edge of the QR 7’s base and vents through the small gap between the main cabinet and the plinth that supports it. Such an arrangement tends to make speakers less fussy about placement within a room, and so it proves in this case with the Audivectors sounding pretty balanced from around 50cm away from the closest walls. They don’t prove too fussy about angling towards the listening position either, which points to a decently wide dispersion from those AMT tweeters. We end up with the QR 7 pointing towards the listening position, crossing a little behind our heads, which gives a broad and nicely focused soundstage.

Woo Audio TUBE mini Review

November 29, 2023 Comments Off on Woo Audio TUBE mini Review

Overall, the TUBE mini by Woo Audio is a really good solution for a question perhaps just a few were asking. That is, How do I inject a tube  sound into a truly portable package?  Woo does make other products for dragging tube sound from home to office, or office to cafe, but the cost and the weight is significantly higher than the TUBE mini is capable of bragging about. What this device does is extremely unique, and something that its target clientele is certain to appreciate. The output power is surprisingly strong, the sound is just “tuby” enough and the portability is at a maximum. Once you navigate yourself around the physical technicalities inherently involved with tube design playback, I think most purchasers will be pleasantly surprised by the unique proposition involved here. A very fun listen for almost any full-size headphone.

Angela-Gilbert Yeung C312 Preamplifier $6300 Review

But no matter how I changed those dials (and I never did have to change any of them by more than a one-hour increment), the basic nature of the C312 remained consistent—clear and open, resolving, and detailed, with an excellent portrayal of space—and so, so quiet. If this preamplifier did not have those multiple gain stages, it would still be worthy of recommendation.

The inclusion of those gain stages means—without a doubt—that this preamp’s not for everyone. While I find the C312’s variable stages intriguing, I’m not certain I’d make sufficient use of them to make their inclusion in my system worthwhile. That said, the one time I did need it, the C312’s adjustability fixed a problem I’d likely have had to live with.

ZMF CALDERA REVIEW

November 28, 2023 Comments Off on ZMF CALDERA REVIEW

I have had the pleasure to review a lot of headphones and I have unboxed hundreds of headphones over the years but I have to say that the whole ZMF Caldera unboxing experience was a pure pleasure. I have never seen a company putting so much effort in the unboxing experience and it for me easily is the best one ever. You don’t just get the box with the gear inside, but you get well-designed, informational cards with characteristics of and instructions for your headphone. You as well get a a sort of manual for the 1st time use and maintenance. It’s super impressive

HiFi Rose RS130 Music Library/Streamer £4299 Review

Depending on the digital output in use – and the capabilities of the connected DAC – the RS130 supports files at up to 768kHz/32-bit and DSD512, with downsampling and DoP transmission available respectively for DACs unable to match those extremes. HiFi Rose’s transport is heard at its best with high-resolution files, for example delivering crystalline detail with the Hoff Ensemble’s Polarity [2L 2L-145; DSD256]. Here there is an almost luminous view of pianist Jan Gunnar Hoff, bassist Anders Jormin and drummer Audun Kleive, fully recreating the ‘you are there’ impression that 2L label boss Morten Lindberg always strives to achieve.

However, the RS130 remains impressive in its handling of music at much lower data-rates, and I hugely enjoyed using it to listen to everything from Internet station Radio Paradise to some of the 2023 BBC Proms, where its clean feed made the most of the live Radio 3 stream. Do you need it? That’s going to be a personal decision, but there’s no denying this is a very superior network streaming source.
