The Audeze CRBN Electrostatic Headphone is exactly what you would expect from Audeze, bringing the fabled Audeze sound to electrostatics. Simply put, if you like Audeze headphones, you will love the CRBN. On the other hand, the Audeze CRBN is everything you are missing in prototypical electrostatic headphones, dynamic, efficient, with exceptional bass response and extension, while retaining the resolute mids and highs you are looking for when you turn to electrostatics.

IFI AUDIO HIP-DAC 3 REVIEW

January 23, 2024 Comments Off on IFI AUDIO HIP-DAC 3 REVIEW

The hip-dac 3 is a slim and portable device that makes a great companion for smartphone and slim laptop users. You can easily connect it to your device using a USB cable and start using it right away. The device is plug-and-play for smartphones and PCs, but it’s recommended to install the iFi firmware on your Windows laptop for full functionality.

If you’re a fan of EDM tunes, you’ll find the xBass button useful. However, if you prefer a more natural sound, you can keep this feature turned off. The device supports all file formats, including 24-bit files from streaming services like Qobuz. You can listen to your favourite music flawlessly using USB Audio Player Pro on your smartphone.

Canor AI 2.10 Integrated Hybrid Amplifier $4000 Review

January 23, 2024 Comments Off on Canor AI 2.10 Integrated Hybrid Amplifier $4000 Review

One of my favourite test LPs is the Mehta/LA/Decca Varèse, both sides. Side 1 for “Arcana”, a wild assault on the senses which demands gobs of power from your amp and Side 2 for “Intégrales”, a delicate, tactile percussion and wind piece that makes equally tough demands, but in timbral accuracy, imaging and soundstage. I was surprised at the Canor’s effortless ability to portray the power of “Arcana”, and just as easily the timbral beauty of “Intégrales” but with a tubey leading edge on all transients. It was very beautiful. I was expecting less power. The 2.10’s massive toroidal power supply will give you enough visceral energy and grunt for most repertoire and all but the most problematic of titles.

Burmester 077/218 Pre/Power Amplifiers Review

The distinctively rich presentation of the 077/218 pre/power amplifiers may be at odds with the apocryphal Germanic ‘sound tuning’, but there’s no doubt they are superbly easy to enjoy, while at the same time conveying the spirit and emotion of the music. Add in the solid engineering and lavish styling, and there’s no gainsaying the appeal of these luxurious Nor, indeed, the sound they deliver.

Perlisten Audio S5t Loudspeaker Review

January 21, 2024 Comments Off on Perlisten Audio S5t Loudspeaker Review

Other times though? The S5t will blow you away. Joe Bonamassa’s ‘High Water Everywhere’ […Live From The Royal Albert Hall; Provogue PRD 7274-2], with its heavy drumming track spread across a huge stage, was an eye-opening moment. The twang of the steel string acoustic guitar had righteous attack, the singer’s vocals were projected high and far, and the speakers disappeared entirely from view.

Of course, this recording is demo-worthy and mixed to sound gargantuan, but Perlisten’s floorstander did it justice. And I got the same impression from Black Sabbath’s ‘Symptom Of The Universe’ [Sabotage; Warner Records RR2 2822], arguably the first ever ‘thrash metal’ track. The S5t didn’t shave an ounce off the grit and texture of Tony Iommi’s serrated guitar riff, while drums and bass crashed around behind. I could have been in the Black Country in 1975.

Mobile Fidelity Electronics MasterPhono Review

January 21, 2024 Comments Off on Mobile Fidelity Electronics MasterPhono Review

Through the MasterPhono, MoFi’s MasterTracker played all three versions in a relaxed, brilliant-but-dark manner that synched well, tone and texture-wise, with Mr. Sanders’s mesmeric incantations. Every time I get tired of using moving magnets it’s because I’m jonesing for the sparkle, dynamic vigor, and transient intensity that moving coils can provide. The MasterTracker MM feeding the MasterPhono played against type, delivering transient virtuosity with copious portions of sparkle and glow.

Are you ready for business class?
If your turntable cost more than a few thousand dollars and your taste in cartridges is moving further into four figures, MoFi’s MasterPhono was created to assist you in your phonophile evolution. For me, a reviewer, it is what I’d been casting about for: alive and vigorous, clear and well-sorted, relaxed and natural, a mid-priced, user-friendly phono stage that’s easy to recommend and enjoy.
