I view the concept of break-in with one eyebrow arched; we are crossing the line into audio voodoo here, in my opinion. However, the one component category where the idea of break-in makes most sense is with loudspeakers: The idea that moving machined parts with tight tolerances may take some time to loosen up and get in the groove seems reasonable to me. I admire my fellow audio writers who have the willpower to let things run in for days or weeks before they pay any attention to it, but I’m too impatient usually—with something new, I want to hear results right away.

Dynamics—that’s the key here. The Thales system made a distinct happening of the start and stop of each note, each effect, each sharp moment. So when Waits disburses a grunt or a grumble, it stood out from the other instruments and sounds that make up this complicated song. The Thales does it again on “Metropolitan Glide,” where Waits’s front-and-center vocals gained an appropriate serving of spit and gristle, the Thales expanding the reach and spread of his explosive, whole-head voice

Vitus Audio RI-101 MK2 Integrated Amplifier Review
July 8, 2024 Comments Off on Vitus Audio RI-101 MK2 Integrated Amplifier Review
Everything under the hood of the RI-101 MK2 is based on an intensive research and development project that spanned several years and represents a world of its own when it comes to music reproduction. From the very beginning, Hans Ole Vitus had a clear vision of how Vitus Audio products should sound and look, and over the years many have tried (unsuccessfully) to imitate both the look and the sound. The exceptional know-how continues with each new generation of electronics, and this is reflected in sonic accuracy as well as the golden trinity of timbre, tone, and color.
The brand is positively obsessed with the sound of its propriety modules, which are the cornerstone of all Vitus products and which make them intrinsically and brilliantly different. They have the same extreme fanatical attention to testing and stress-testing their equipment before it leaves the factory. To this end, they have developed a series of tests to ensure the longevity of the products. Of course, this can not change the nastiness that some shipping services are so well known for, but they do their best to ensure that the product is technically perfect and packed properly before it is delivered.

HIBY X FAUDIO PROJECT ACE REVIEW
July 7, 2024 Comments Off on HIBY X FAUDIO PROJECT ACE REVIEW
The new Project Ace from HiBy, unfortunately, doesn’t have an ideal shape for ears in my opinion. The angular design and the positioning of the shells feel off when you insert them. HiBy provides a good set of tips, and I found foam tips to be the best fit for me. The silicone tips didn’t work well, as I couldn’t get a flush fit or proper seal. So, overall, the fit experience with Project Ace is problematic, at least in my experience.
Isolation varies with the tips you use. I found that foam and hybrid tips (aftermarket) offer the best isolation. There’s a vent for the dynamic driver, but it doesn’t affect the isolation much, especially with foams.

In my experience with PS Audio components, what sets them apart is the care, quality, and superb sound performance, so I wasn’t surprised that this small but beautiful design was their newest creation. I can almost hear the response to this review: It doesn’t have a DAC, and what do you mean it has no screen? Are you saying it doesn’t have Bluetooth? Yes. It is USD 1999 for a DAC-less, Bluetooth-less, Screen-less streamer, but I tell you this, the clean and immersive sound you’ll get, the way you’ll experience streaming with this great audio component is well worth it.
