Technics SC-CX700 active loudspeaker system Review

The rear panels are not the same at all. The secondary speaker has only an AC input receptacle, an RJ45 jack for making a wired connection with the primary speaker, and a button for pairing it wirelessly with the primary. This pairing is done at the factory, but this button can be used should that pairing fail or should one of the speakers need to be replaced.

The primary, on the other hand, is busy with connections. In addition to the AC input and the RJ45 for that inter-speaker cable, there’s a wired output for a subwoofer (RCA), a switch to change L/R channel assignment, and the actual inputs corresponding to six of the seven signal inputs mentioned above. (You don’t need a wired input for Wi-Fi or Bluetooth!)

Pass Laboratories XA200.8 10th Anniversary $2,499 Review

In the last ten years, I put a monstrosity of equipment up-stream of the XA200.8 and not only has it been utterly rugged in engineering and indestructible in use, its gentleness towards speakers is unsurpassed. I put it through the 100dB sensitive Destination Vista horn and later on the Pureaudioproject Quintet 15 with Voxativ AC-X  during their respective auditions and the amp was gentle and judicious, never brutal or brittle; the first watt or so required for live performance level playback through these speakers was pristine and rich, never mind it probably never needed to produce the second watt, much less the two hundredth watt for that matter. Of course, for such efficient speakers the $7,650 XA30.8 would’ve sufficed, but the XA 200.8 was so well-engineered it was arguably the most trustworthy and ideal solid-state amplifier to pair to those speakers.

Maytak Audio M6 $949 Review

The relatively high sensitivity also means the noisy sources will be easily revealed. Whilst an 11-ohm load facilitates high voltage sensitivity, it also means that the Maytak M6 are quite sensitive towards output impedance.

With loudspeakers, the rule of thumb is to keep output impedance 8 times lower than the load, so with the M6, this translates to 1.4 ohms.

One must also keep in mind that these are multi-driver IEMs with non-linear electric impedance, so high impedance drive will interact with them and cause shifts in the frequency response.

SMSL RAWPro-DAC1 $699 Review

ESS chips are known for their accuracy in sound presentation without inputting much of a stamp on the signature. This allows what is there to be heard uncolored and unencumbered by nuances other chips may impact on the sound.

Pairing with a variety of amplifiers allowed the amplifier to dictate the sonic characteristics heard. But, changing the Soundcolor settings allows the user to fine-tune what we hear. If you pair it with a tube amplifier, you can add more subtle bits through the three tube options.

Prefer a more crystal response for genres such as micro-detailed classical? There are options for that, as well as adding richness to the scale.

I found myself changing with different songs played, allowing for a fine-tuning that almost became a ritual. But if one focuses on a single (or two) genre(s), know that setting and forgetting is worth it, too.

Coming across as neutral, the RAWPro-DAC1 allowed altering nothing or a lot as your pleasure without distracting from the overall excellence.
