Infigo Audio Method 4 High End Digital to Analog Converter
The Infigo Audio Method 4 DAC is a serious (and expensive at USD 35,000) contender for those who want impeccable clarity and transparency— and have the money. It uses the finest DAC chips, is simple to operate, and can play anything without fuss. As for those quiet moments revealed, I wish Method 4 could be programmed to make my home quiet like that upon demand

Three screws brace the suspension for transportation. Once removed, the small armboard and bearing are freed and move in unison. Next, the sub-platter is dropped into the self-lubricating bearing bush. The wide belt is placed on the motor pulley and positioned on the lower area of the subplatter. From there, the beautifully machined, damped aluminum platter is placed on the sub-platter. The machining is so precise that even when spinning, the platter appears still!
Levelling the table is a simple affair too, as this design uses three feet rather than four, making quick work of getting it right on point. The table is powered by a sophisticated external power supply, which is attached to the table with the included umbilical cord. There are connections for both RCA and XLR interconnects. I used the included RCA interconnect, which has the ground wire wrapped within its braided jacket. Once connected, there was a noticeable absence of hum, buzz, or anything but the faintest hiss. Well done!

PlusSound Volta $2,499 Review
July 4, 2025 Comments Off on PlusSound Volta $2,499 Review
PlusSound has a proven history and expertise with IEMs, demonstrating its knowledge of high-performance models. Therefore, it would be misguided to consider this merely another example of a cable manufacturer’s IEM. We examined Sonora’s performance and decided to give it a recommended buy award beforehand, so the Volta should not be a slouch either.
Overall, the PlusSound Volta takes a different approach to its Sonora counterpart. It offers a similar resolution, transparency, and layering qualities, but delivers them differently, which is less full-bodied and more neutral. The mid-range is the most different area (obviously), where it takes a lifted upper mid-range approach and less fullness in the lower mid-range.

EMM Labs PRE i stereo preamplifier Review

I was very surprised at the results of trying this SACD again with both the updated EMM DA2i D/A and the EMM PRE. The sense of congestion was entirely gone. For all practical purposes, so was the brightness (or sense of brightness, as the case may be). What happened? I believe it is the clarity of the decoding/processing operation in the DA2i, combined with the exceptional clarity of the EMM preamp. The result is an excellent musical experience that is not the least fatiguing (as it tended to be in the past), but is instead delightful in its detail, sparkle and energy. The top end is open, the cymbals are airy and authentic. The strings are smooth and reasonably warm. An excellent listen.

Magnepan MG 3.6 Magneplanar Loudspeaker $4375 Review

This type of tweeter must be experienced in a proper high-end audio system to be understood in my humble opinion. Why? Because it is not just a high-frequency reproducer like a dome or smaller ribbon tweeters. The Magnepan ribbon covers a very wide range of frequencies, from 40kHz to below 2kHz to be exact. Going down to 2kHz is quite low for a tweeter yet it never seems to suffer from breakup as I have heard from lesser drivers. What does this all mean to you? It means incredibly smooth upper-frequency reproduction without all those peaks and dips due to crossover parts or horribly designed crossover networks getting in the way of the music. In fact, the crossover for the 3.6 is extremely well designed and the icing on the cake is that it presents an almost flat 4 Ohm load to your amplifier.
I make no secret that my favorite inexpensive (around $2,400 when new, now available used for under $1,000) dynamic cone speaker is the KEF 104/2. This speaker, like the 3.6 presents a very flat 4 Ohm impedance curve. What seems to happen in Audiophile Land is that once someone buys a speaker with a wide impedance curve they are forever going to Amplifier City buying new boxes. This can also usually be said about speakers that use very complicated crossover networks. If you can not count the individual crossover parts on two hands I try to strictly avoid these designs in general. Maybe my experiences are different than yours, yet in-home auditioning over ten different speakers within this past year has taught me something (I hope). Beware of wide impedance curves and complicated crossovers! This way may lead to Audiophile Neverosa.

xDuoo DM-01 Review
July 2, 2025 Comments Off on xDuoo DM-01 Review
The xDuoo DM-01 delivers a bass response that leans more toward warmth and musicality than sheer impact. Compared to solid-state sources like the FiiO K11, the DM-01 is slightly sub-bass light, favoring a fuller and thicker mid-bass presentation.
While it still reaches impressively low, sub-bass notes tend to be more reserved, with the emphasis placed instead on mid-bass warmth and body.
This tuning lends itself well to genres like funk and disco, where rich bass guitar lines come through with a lush, rounded quality.
The DM-01 plays synth basslines with a relaxing fullness yet retains enough resolution to preserve the textural detail and harmonic nuances of acoustic instruments and plucked strings.
Despite its mid-bass tilt, the DM-01 avoids excessive bloat or bleed into the midrange. It maintains a clean separation that ensures clarity in modern pop, rock, and hip-hop tracks.

Manley Neo-Classic 300B tube power amp Review

Even more riveting was Craft’s astonishing 4LP box set, Miles ’54 – The Prestige Recordings [CR00689]. Although cut only four years later than the Sinatra sessions, the sound quality available to Miles Davis audibly expanded the dynamic range and added heft to the bass and drums. The attack of the trumpet and the breathiness of the saxes were of a standard yet to be bettered, and it was here that both the feedback settings and the single-ended-vs-push-pull variances of the Neo-Classic were made vivid.
As theories go, this is pretty lame, but I feel that mono frees the listener (in auditioning mode rather than listening purely for pleasure) from the distractions of worrying about imagery, soundstage and other stereo-related virtues. Instead, one listens just to the performance and the instruments.
