Karan Acoustics Master Collection POWERa Stereo Amplifier Review

The POWERa Stereo has unique features such as a proprietorially designed built- in Line conditioner. You can turn it on by switching on a toggle switch located on the bottom center of the rear panel, directly below the speaker cable outputs and the single-ended and balanced inputs. Power conditioning is on when switched in the “0” position and disengaged in the “1” position. Actually, it’s the opposite of turning the amp on and off. You can even switch on and off while the amplifier is switched on and playing music. Karan wanted to have its own design and solution to treat unwanted DC artifacts from the main supply. He thought of everything! However, built-in line conditioner in my system I wasn’t able to discern the difference with my Torus isolation transformer in the system. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take the Torus out of my system to evaluate the built-in line conditioner. My setup didn’t have enough wall outlets to bypass the Torus. With a different setup than my system I would think the built-in line conditioner would enhance the sound.

SVS Ultra Evolution Pinnacle Loudspeaker Review

Switching over to the Gold 300 5Gs, there were a couple of notable differences. The most obvious was the inability of the Monitor Audios to match the scale of the SVS towers. When the bass kicks in on “Your Rocky Spine,” it hit me in the chest through the Pinnacles. They produced far more weight in the low frequencies, which in turn made them sound bigger and more visceral. For their part, the Monitor Audios were more incisive. The assorted strings on “Your Rocky Spine” were crisper and more tightly focused through the British towers. This, combined with their reduced bass output relative to the Pinnacles, gave them a cooler character.

HIFIMAN Arya Unveiled Planar Magnetic Headphones Review

As I explored the Arya Unveiled and its numerous capabilities, I kept thinking “Wow, these are really fun!” Some headphones seem made for “serious” analytical enjoyment and absolutely have their place. I have headphones like that, and it can be a sublime experience. Often, however, I’m ready to sit by the fire and kick back and enjoy music from my laptop without thinking “Gee this would sound great if they just had more power to drive them”. The Arya Unveiled are easy to drive and don’t require pristine recordings to sound their best. If someone was going to have only one set of headphones that aren’t going to require taking out a bank loan to purchase but can sound great on all kinds of music, and devices, I think the Arya Unveiled is a serious contender for being that headphone.

According to SGC: The Sonore opticalRendu is a Roon Ready network player and network streamer. With its capability for audiophile-grade fiber Ethernet network streaming, the opticalRendu allows you to play directly to your DAC from a computer or a music server. The optical Rendu provides complete isolation from Ethernet network noise when paired with the TrendNet four port switch with SFB bundle. This will convert optical Ethernet to standard Ethernet and connect to a standard port on a router or switch. You should note that the fiber connections used in this system are not TOSLINK fiber. This is Ethernet fiber.

Technics SL-1300G Turntable | REVIEW

Through all of my listening sessions, I was reminded of one of the main reasons why I respect Technics turntables such as the 1200G and now the 1300G–and that’s the simple, precise way everything works. The Technics SL-1300G is a fantastic turntable for those vinyl lovers who find themselves clumsy and nervous around something like the J. Sikora, which requires that you be incredibly mindful about it whenever you’re within a couple of feet from your equipment rack. One careless swipe of the hand and that free-floating unipivot arm is going to start bouncing all over the place. Cueing with the Technics, however, is almost fool-proof in comparison–the movement of the level corresponds exactly with the lowering of the stylus and the positioning of the arm is low enough to plinth to eradicate any feelings that the cantilever of the cartridge, the Aidas in particular, is just way too far out in free space.

Five touch-sensitive buttons are spread across the bottom of the display, labeled Mute, Units (for setting volume level indication as 0–100 or dBs), Menu (for controlling brightness, screen saver, maximum output, network reset, and polarity), and Left and Right (for menu navigation and scrolling through the inputs). When Menu is selected, the top part of the display changes to allow navigating to and selecting the desired function.
At the rear, in addition to the streaming inputs mentioned, you will find digital inputs for AES-EBU (XLR), coaxial S/PDIF (RCA), optical S/PDIF (TosLink), USB Audio, and EMM OptiLink, which accepts DSD and PCM streams from an EMM SACD/CD transport or player. Balanced (XLR) and unbalanced (RCA) outputs are provided. An RS232 serial port is provided for factory support, and two small buttons for network reset. A power switch sits next to the IEC power inlet.
