CONSTELLATION AUDIO INSPIRATION PREAMP 1.0 LINE PREAMP AND MONO 1.0 POWER AMPLIFIER REVIEW

” There’s an obvious question hanging over the Inspiration range… why pay more? Staying just with the Constellation Audio line-up thanks to that consistency, why would you pay about three times as much for a Performance model or eight times as much for a Reference model? On the surface, it’s a tough question to answer”

CH Precision M1 Mono Amplifier Review

” I’m not one of those reviewers who proclaim “the best I’ve heard” every passing month. But the CH Precision M1 Mono amp had me thinking along those lines from the start. It’s really in a different class.
If the amps that preceded it reside high up in Reference Class, our highest ranking, the M1 is somewhere beyond. Components of this caliber need some other designation. Personally, I call them Exit Components. The CH M1 Mono amp belongs there; so does the CH L1 Preamp.”

Hegel H160 Integrated Amplifier Review
January 25, 2016 Comments Off on Hegel H160 Integrated Amplifier Review
” Timing and perspective from the H160’s high frequencies was excellent. I never found cymbals to be jarring or forward, and yet their characteristics were tightly in focus. Even on heavy tracks like Lamb of God – Walk with Me in Hell, Chris Adler’s remarkable ability to place a perfectly timed cymbal was evident without being harsh through the H160, even at unneighbourly volumes.”

BALANCED AUDIO TECHNOLOGY REX II PREAMPLIFIER AND REX II MONOBLOCK POWER AMPLIFIERS REVIEW
January 21, 2016 Comments Off on BALANCED AUDIO TECHNOLOGY REX II PREAMPLIFIER AND REX II MONOBLOCK POWER AMPLIFIERS REVIEW
” If the BAT equipment has continued to make great strides toward what some more audacious than myself term the absolute, it also retained some of the qualities that have characterized its performance in previous generations. The timbral reproduction of both the preamplifier and amplifier, it must be said, continued to hew to the darker sound of the spectrum. This has both pluses and minuses. The upside is that the overall presentation is rich and organic without a trace of treble rebarbativeness. The downside is that the treble is not as extended as that of a variety of other amplifiers. A certain rounding of the treble means that even hand claps or whistles simply sound lower on the frequency spectrum than I have heard with other gear. There is absolutely no shrillness that can be associated with the Rex, but it’s also the case that the somewhat velvety treble impinges ever so slightly on the micro-dynamic performance of the Rex II.”

PLAYBACK DESIGNS IPS-3 INTEGRATED PLAYBACK SYSTEM REVIEW
January 16, 2016 Comments Off on PLAYBACK DESIGNS IPS-3 INTEGRATED PLAYBACK SYSTEM REVIEW
” On reflection, that detail is reflected across the entire audio band. Where the majority of lesser amplifiers and DAC’s seem to excel in certain areas, the integrated playback system seems to master all areas equally, with a seamless top to bottom quality. It stands to reason that when you control the digital signal as it enters the unit, until it leaves as an analogue waveform on its way to the loudspeakers, you can control and limit losses and enjoy a favourable handover from one section of the circuitry to another. Hence, ensuring maximum fidelity.”

Mark Levinson No.585 Review
January 12, 2016 Comments Off on Mark Levinson No.585 Review
” There’s little sign of low-level noise or hiss that most amplifiers generate – usually heard when there’s no signal and you put your ear next to the tweeter – and this means that the sound has a silent backdrop from which to grow.”

” Nah warries, mite! I got your solution right here (and mine); go here to tubeaudiolab.com and email the main man in charge, Min. He’ll no doubt give you an expert level build at a very reasonable price because he is in fact an expert builder and you sir most likely are not. Okay I suppose even if you are a non-expert, you can supposedly easily build it yourself in an estimated 10-15 hours, but where’s the fun in that?! Pah! Get people to do those things for you, I say! You’d make a terrible billionaire. ”

RAVEN AUDIO BLACKHAWK LIMITED EDITION REVIEW
January 6, 2016 Comments Off on RAVEN AUDIO BLACKHAWK LIMITED EDITION REVIEW
” The results suggest my first reaction was the correct one: that the songs survive better than Coverdale’s voice. All the modern production and metal techniques do not really help the music swing as Purple recorded it. Nonetheless, this album rocks hard and the wall of sound provided by Whitesnake comes through with energy and a fair degree of punch on the Raven-driven Vons. On more than one occasion I found myself cranking the volume and smiling to myself as those old riffs leapt out of the speakers. No, this is not audiophile-approved listening but it is fun,”

Naim Audio • Statement NAC S1 Preamplifier and NAP S1 Mono Amplifiers $88,000 Review
January 5, 2016 Comments Off on Naim Audio • Statement NAC S1 Preamplifier and NAP S1 Mono Amplifiers $88,000 Review
” ran the Statements exclusively with the Wilson Sasha 2s, partly because the implications of relocating either product are daunting, but mainly because they simply worked so well together that I felt no need to ring the changes. The Wilsons deliver exactly the sort of enthusiastic dynamic response and slightly awkward load that Naim amps have always thrived on — and the Statement amps are no different. Obviously I haven’t tried it, but I suspect that pairing with Alexias or Alexandria XLFs would prove even more efficacious, with the big Naim monoblocks having both the power and authority to drive either speaker, as well as the musical qualities they demand”
