GAMUT D3I PREAMPLIFIER AND D200I POWER AMPLIFIER
September 19, 2015 Comments Off on GAMUT D3I PREAMPLIFIER AND D200I POWER AMPLIFIER
The GamuT pair, especially the D200i, manage to combine power with tonal subtlety – a quality that serves whatever music you want to play very effectively. The D3i is not the most relaxed or natural-sounding preamplifier on the planet, but it can produce a vivid and entrancing sound that lets you hear the meaning in the music. It is extremely good at resolving reverb and timing, though not in the front league, is certainly not sluggish. With Barenboim’s Beethoven For All Symphony No.1 in C, Op.21 [24/96, Decca], the orchestra really breathes (again!): it’s too big for the room, but you get a strong sense of the power and dynamics on tap. Some might want a bit more authority
Classe Sigma AMP5 Five-Channel Digital Amplifier Reviewed

Despite being rated at a mere 200 watts per channel, the Classe AMP5 laughed at the challenge of this bombastic track. Control, poise, and presence were the notes I scribed through my listening session. While I am used to bigger Classe amps in the CT600 mono blocks, I couldn’t get to the end of the 200 watts here in the AMP5 when driving my easy-to-power Focal Diablo Utopias. Consider the difference in price between the reference mono blocks for two channels and the AMP5 at five channels, and you’ll start to see the overall value of the AMP5.

CLASSÉ CP-800 PREAMP AND CA-D200 AMPLIFIER
September 17, 2015 Comments Off on CLASSÉ CP-800 PREAMP AND CA-D200 AMPLIFIER
Day-to-day living with the Classé was both a pleasure and a real eye-opener in the way it illustrated the ever-shifting nature of the high end. Whereas once upon a time my source components were limited to a turntable and a Dolby cassette deck, I took stock of all the sources driving the CP-800 during the time of period of my evaluation, and it was a like a population explosion. There was the ever-faithful turntable, CD transport over SPDIF, an HD-DVR, Blu-ray player, Lumin Music Player on the network with twin NAS drives, Apple TV, and a handful of USB thumbdrives. And they were all playing nicely, thanks to the CP-800’s copious input selection and switching flexibility.

One performance characteristic is the dead quiet background. It provides a truly blank canvas to paint audio portraits on, capturing subtle nuance and detail. The other noteworthy area is the bass: dynamic and solid while simultaneously being exceptionally tight and detailed.
ZANDEN AUDIO SYSTEMS MODEL 8120 POWER AMPLIFIER
September 16, 2015 Comments Off on ZANDEN AUDIO SYSTEMS MODEL 8120 POWER AMPLIFIER
We are collectively so used to the ‘language’ of audio amplification, that if it’s absent then we miss its accent, just as if you habitually take sugar in your tea, you are instantly aware, almost before the drink reaches your lips, if that sweetened taste sensation isn’t there. This Zanden allows us – or more properly, invites us – to enjoy a paradigm shift. Instead of viewing the recording through the lens of the system playing it, this amp advances the perspective, revealing the music through the window of the recording.

Bricasti takes this one step further/better than the Seta Buffer: the M28 monoblock pair has matched user-configurable, fully analog, fixed-attenuation settings built-in. That is, each has a Buffer On Board, though Bricasti calls it “trim control”. From the manual:

Bass is this element of the presentation one will notice at once and appreciate it. It is a deviation from a perfect tonal balance but it was done on purpose and in such a way that it does not have any negative “side effect”. One doesn’t really feel like there is any emphasis in the sound. One plays any newly bought album knowing that one will be able to listen to the whole of it and not stop listening mid first piece to quickly sell the album on eBay.
Linn Majik DSM Integrated Amplifier-Network Music Player – Review
September 11, 2015 Comments Off on Linn Majik DSM Integrated Amplifier-Network Music Player – Review
” These should be the speakers’ “ideal” positions, according to Linn — that is, where they sound their absolute best. From there, the Linn has you place, and measure once more, the speakers in their “practical” positions — they assume that listeners will have to contend with furniture, television stands, equipment racks, and other space restrictions. The Majik DSM crunches some numbers, then spits out a profile for the lowest frequencies (10-200Hz) that adjusts the speakers’ frequency response to offset the various room modes. Linn promises that the Majik will then deliver, from your speakers’ “practical” positions, the sound you hear from them in their “ideal” positions. Cool, right?”
Mola mola kaluga class d monoblock amplifier Review

“Whilst a nice achievement, Bruno had just gotten started thinking outside the box. He realized that the negative attitude audiophiles hold about negative feedback had nothing to with feedback per se. It had to do with the amount of feedback applied and how linear or not it operated across the bandwidth. Classical negative feedback goes heavy on the low frequencies and decreases as frequencies rise to create distorted treble which caused the bad audiophile rep we’ve all heard about. Bruno’s next goal became a circuit that would exploit feedback in a new even more effective way and thus would apply it also equally across the audible range.”
