Stoner Acoustics EGA headphone Amp $450 – Review
February 13, 2016 Comments Off on Stoner Acoustics EGA headphone Amp $450 – Review
” At USD450, the Stoner Acoustics EGA is a steal, especially if you already have a full balanced DAC and headphone to pair with, if you don’t have Stoner Acoustics is very happy to sell you their excellent EGD (Full balanced DAC). The sound quality is like what a good headphone amplifier should do, a neutral and balanced sound signature, yes, I think that an ‘audiophile type of bass boost’ feature should have been included, but no headphone amplifier at this price range really did this, so no complain here, I will have to stress that again, the bass is not lacking, it is very clean and tight.”

SPL Phonitor 2 – $2,000 Review
February 12, 2016 Comments Off on SPL Phonitor 2 – $2,000 Review
” If only the stereo image wasn’t so unnatural! But that sensation goes away immediately with the Phonitor 2, as soon as you choose “All” in the Matrix, activating the Crossfeed, Speaker Angle and Center settings. Sound detaches itself from the transducers, the stereo image turns more realistic (narrower). All headphones I know have too much in the low frequencies, something that the Phonitor 2 reduces a bit, and while I couldn’t really perceive a clear frontal localization, the inside-the-head sensation is less annoying. Yes, you can even make yourself a realistic idea of the size of a room. So even loudspeaker fans can have some real fun!”

The Ruby Stoner Acoustics
February 3, 2016 Comments Off on The Ruby Stoner Acoustics
“The Ruby by Stoner Acoustics is one of the stranger yet undeniably cute audio offerings out there and though it is basically a portable analog amp it’s size and shape is very eye catching. Throw in a quality if rather large pot, superb low noise levels and excellent efficiency and you have a nice little budget IEM analog amp with good, if not ground breaking musical sound quality.”

Amps & Sound Kenzie $1500 Review
February 2, 2016 Comments Off on Amps & Sound Kenzie $1500 Review
” This is a very hard line to straddle and some amplifiers are good at one or the other, but not both. The Woo Audio WA22 is a very euphonic amplifier and pairs quite nicely with the HD800s, but over time and with recordings, its euphonic nature really does creep into the experience and smooths instruments too close together and rounds off the edges to a point where some of the realism is sacrificed. The Kenzie however manages to straddle this line of being true to the recording and still offers a very musical and pleasing presentation with these finicky headphones.”

CYPHER LABSc SUSTAIN84 $1200 REVIEW
February 1, 2016 Comments Off on CYPHER LABSc SUSTAIN84 $1200 REVIEW
” Though full sounding and possessing great texture and detail the bass performance of the Sustain84 is more relaxed and polite than punchy or aggressive. I actually find this to be a plus point for my own personal tastes as the Sustain84 sounds much more coherent and balanced with this type of bass signature. The balance between attack and decay is above average for tube performance and in some ways reminds me of the stock response of the Studio 6 tubes in terms of tonality and tempo though the Studio 6 has the better sub-bass definition and weight compared to the Sustain84’s slightly heightened mid-bass”

TEKTRON TK2A3/50S-I-HEAD – DHT MAGIC REVIEW
January 28, 2016 Comments Off on TEKTRON TK2A3/50S-I-HEAD – DHT MAGIC REVIEW
” So the bass is almost the opposite of a tube amps stigma. Instead of warmth we have tightness, instead of wallowing we have speed, and instead of waves of bass we have quick tight punches. It’s the driest tube amp I have ever heard and renders a hard but compact movement of air. Now while I do like my bass like this and it was just spot on with my ZMFs, HD580s and EL-8s, I did find it just a tad too true with my HD800s, which cant do with just a tad more quantity. This is not an HD800 amp though.”
