“All controls on the front panel are motorized and may be controlled by a remote, which is still in the works. Although motorized volume controls are readily available, Axel lamented not being able to find motorized switches of sufficient quality for use with the Orpheus. Their answer: They used motorized pots; built some custom spring-loaded detents for then so they had a satisfactory “click”; and then use the voltage sensed to trigger mode switching.”

” The most difficult thing, I suppose, is to find a common element in all the listening sessions that can define the overall qualities of the DAC. Firstly, there is the huge choice of the formats: PCM from 44.1 to 192 kHz and DSD 64-128. I am sure that the common opinion says that the quality of the take is not determined by the bit rate. If you start from a poor base, this will remain the same also at 24/192 or at DSD128. What you can really appreciate in the high-density digital formats is a kind of cultural baggage made by time and listening experiences”

” You can get incredibly flat and detailed DAC’s at lower prices, but this has a lot more in terms of format compatibility, and also inputs/outputs. The balanced outputs are great for higher end amps, along with 2 optical so you can hook this up to your TV and console in the living room and flick between sources with the included remote.

:”Great components and stellar build quality always count for a lot and it’s tough, if not impossible, to get an amazing performance if these boxes aren’t checked. But after months of extensive listening and comparison, the 430HA is indeed special, musical and effortlessly real. This component lives in a zone, price-wise, that isn’t mega high end, but is still a substantial investment. However, it offers mega performance – it offers refinement rarely available at this price. As much fun as the 430HA is with first class headphones, you don’t really notice what a phenomenal performer it is until you drop it in a room with great speakers and experience the bass control and upper register separation and cleanliness it delivers.”

“Soundstage is okay, good for the price, I listened to live album by Peng Jia Hui, soundstage isn’t small, it is not closed in either, just don’t expecting miracle. Separation between each instrument and vocal is good but the distance between them isn’t great, so you will get a feeling everything playing quite near each together. However, nothing getting bad regarding the performance of Ruby, to my experience, it is definitely better sounding than 99USD devices, but it not earth breaking. One issue that I found with Ruby is that it sibilant with some of my recordings, such as the Audiophile Voices,”
