Onkyo DAC-HA200 Review
December 23, 2015 Comments Off on Onkyo DAC-HA200 Review
” If you love music and care about the calibre of sound in your cans then the DAC-HA200 is definitely worth the investment. It’s a fabulous headphone amp and DAC, offering an engaging, insightful sound from any source, while the tough aluminium casing and generous socketry live up to the price tag. The only gripes are the faffing about required to play hi-res files from Android devices and the fiddly controls, but otherwise the DAC-HA200 is a terrific portable proposition.”

ALO Audio’s flagship portable DAC/headfi amp Review
December 18, 2015 Comments Off on ALO Audio’s flagship portable DAC/headfi amp Review
” he enclosure is a clever puzzle of bottom plate to which the battery sleeve is tacked; the U-shaped perforated rim and its C-shaped end piece; and the cover which slips into a recess to align its bolt receivers with the through holes. When screwed back together, it’s a seemingly bomb-proof brick of a marvel. If you don’t fancy the orange LEDs in the valve pins, Ken’s video explains how to defeat them. Time to lend an ear. Or better make that two.”

Chord Hugo TT $3,500 Review
December 13, 2015 Comments Off on Chord Hugo TT $3,500 Review
” I can wholeheartedly recommend the Chord Hugo TT! It hits on all cylinders for me: from its diverse number of inputs (SPDIF, OPTICAL, USB x2, and even Bluetooth), to its world class DAC to it incredibly powerful and dynamic amplifier. The build quality of the construction and the addition of the LED lights to always let you know what’s going on with your audio system is among the very best that I’ve seen. When it comes to my vote for “component of the year”, the Hugo TT will most certainly be in the mix for me to consider. Highly recommended!”

Marantz HD-DAC1 Digital-to-Analog Converter $799
December 3, 2015 Comments Off on Marantz HD-DAC1 Digital-to-Analog Converter $799
“After hearing the Marantz DAC in two very different systems, I was eager to find out how it would fare in a more expensive and highly resolving system — my own. My Thiel CS3.7s are known for their accuracy, the PS Audio DirectStream is famous for its analog-like presentation and the new CAT SL1 Black Path Edition preamp sets a very high bar for transparency. Whatever the flaws of the HD DAC-1 might be, I would have no trouble identifying them.”

AURENDER FLOW DAC/HEADPHONE AMP$1,300 REVIEW
November 25, 2015 Comments Off on AURENDER FLOW DAC/HEADPHONE AMP$1,300 REVIEW
” I used the Flow with a wide variety of earphones from highly sensitive in-ear monitors to my least efficient full-sized headphones, and I was pleasantly surprised that they all worked well. Even with the most sensitive Westone ES-5 there was only the very faintest bit of low-level hiss. At the other end of the efficiency spectrum, the Flow had more than enough power to drive Beyer Dynamic DT-990 600-ohm version well past loud. The Flow is the first headphone amplifier I’ve experienced that didn’t need multiple gain settings to successfully accommodate a full range of headphone options.”

ASTELL & KERN T8IE IEM REVIEW
November 3, 2015 Comments Off on ASTELL & KERN T8IE IEM REVIEW
“Overall the AK T8iE gives off a mildly U-shaped tonal balance that is enjoyable and pleasant to listen with various music genres. If you direct your attention away from the basic tonality and focus on the technicalities of the sound, one would be pleased that the strong suits of a Tesla driver are once again presented to put a grin on your face. The soundstaging is spacious with great width and height, the sound never feels restricted and cramped like most earphones did. The imaging presented with great solidification that one need not stress out to pinpoint instruments playing across its wide staging.”
Schiit Magni 2U & Modi 2U – Review
October 31, 2015 Comments Off on Schiit Magni 2U & Modi 2U – Review
” Low frequencies are exquisitely portrayed with more heft, balance and texture than previously noted. The pairing with the new HiFiMAN HE-400S was just one example of this where the perceived bass-shy frequency range came to life with added details and presence. Though with the HE-400S being tuned the way it is, not even the Schiit stack could bring levels of impact to bass-head levels.”
orzuge VorzaAMP Pure II – Review
October 29, 2015 Comments Off on orzuge VorzaAMP Pure II – Review
” Mid frequencies, although mostly linear, were far from boring. Sounding slightly forward they displayed a rather nice fleshed out character which gave the music a nice fluid and cohesive overall sound. Note decay was neither to phat nor to thin and I found that electrical guitars in particular benefitted while male vocals had a nice throaty heft behind them. Put rather bluntly, this little amp is one great amp for all the rockers out there. I highly recommend listening to a little Perfect Circle with this amp, you won’t be disappointed. The song Judith sounded especially good.”
