” But the frequency response from the PM-3 is much flatter than expected. Oppo seems to have built a headphone that plays to this mainstream headphone market while simultaneously elevating it through its distinctive planar magnetic acoustic signature. These headphones could be the perfect gateway-cans to introduce a headphone-audiophile neophyte to the world of acoustic possibilities of high-end headphones. Oh yes, these could be the cans that start a serious headphone addiction.”

“The HA-2 employs a hybrid class AB amplification circuit and a convenient asynchronous USB-DAC interface that allows the unit to receive digital audio inputs from any attached device. In my case this included the aforementioned Dell PC and an Apple ipad. The amp utilizes the superb ESS Sabre32 DAC which supports both 384 kHz PCM and DSD256 encoding and offers high-quality digital-to-analog conversion for a wide array of Apple-based devices, PCs and Mac computers. The amp operates on battery power and takes about an hour to charge fully when the battery runs down. I got about 6 or 7 hours of steady playback in-between charges. Even after two weeks of non-use, the HA-2 still retained about 75% of its playback power. Wow!”

” The beats are very accurate and the overall effect is incredible, no flappy flabby bass here. The soundstage has that great 3D quality that I look for from a pair of headphones with different parts of the music coming from different directions.”

” Unlike any other HiFiMAN headphone, the HE1000 uses a loosely ear-shaped (or perhaps teardrop shaped) ear cup design that is said to provide a comfortable and roomy fit for ears of virtually any size or shape. The HE1000 ear pads, not unlike those used on other HiFiMAN headphones, are beveled so that the pads are thicker at the rear for a fit that more naturally conforms to the shape of most listeners’ heads. Moreover, the entire HE1000 is very light in weight (just 480g), meaning the headphone feels like a real featherweight in practice—and especially so in contrast with most other planar magnetic or electrostatic designs.”

” Bloated, thick and slow are terms I would use to describe the Z7’s entire low end presentation. However, I would also use terms like musical, fun, enjoyable, smooth and basshead worthy. Despite lacking clarity, the Z7 is magnificently fun and so hard to set down.”
