” Like the midrange, the treble of the HiFiMAN Edition X is well-behaved with no distinct peaks or shrillness in any territory. The amount of detail that the Edition X manages to portray without instilling any brightness into the mix is something of a unique selling point for HiFiMAN’s latest planar model. The somewhat darker tonality of the Edition X does not go amiss here either with the headphone being able to render subtle artifacts and auditory cues that bring it towards the higher-end of audiophilia. With that said though, the Edition X can lack a bit of sparkle in the very high frequency ranges owing to a subtle roll-off. With the use of different cables, however, this can easily be overcome as explained below. Overall, the Edition X’s treble brings to the table an easy-going yet highly resolving sound that spares the ears of harshness and glare that so many other

hhhheadphones are seemingly guilty of.”

” Imaging is very good and allows you to precisely pinpoint instruments whilst allowing them sufficient space for resounding clarity. Soundstage, as you would expect, is on the large side and the headphones do well in creating an airy and immersive presentation perfect for live and binaural recordings. Speed is also very good and the SR225e are one of the faster dynamic driver headphones I have heard which in results in solid levels of detail and separation. ”

“A touch panel on the right earcup is used to control music playback and volume, as well as answer and reject calls. The PXC 550 Wireless will also pause music and calls when you take them off.

The earcups have been designed “for supreme comfort”, and can be folded away and stored in the supplied carry case when not in use.”

HIFIMAN EDITION-X REVIEW

” The Edition-X price-wise is closest to the Audeze LCD-X and the Sennheiser HD800 but its sound signature is very different. If you already own the HE-1000 there is no reason to get the Edition-X as the HE-1000 has it beat for what technicalities are concerned, then again you just might prefer the Edition-X’s sound signature over that of the HE-1000. I feel the Edition-X is a great high-end headphone that keeps it musical at all times. For many headphone fans, the Edition-X will be their TOTL model as the price gap between the X and the HE-1000 still is pretty big.”

Technics EAH-T 700 Headphone $1,199 Review

“These closed-back headphones weigh a little over a pound (16.6 ounces), but I still found them a pleasure to wear. The luscious earpads and supple headband are largely responsible for the EAH-T700s’ comfort. The pads also do a great job sealing out external noise, so I took the EAH-T700s out to a local park with my Astell & Kern Jr high-resolution music player. That turned out to be a great pairing because the EAH-T700s are more sensitive than any other flagship headphones I’ve tried, so they played louder and were more dynamically alive than the other ’phones with portable players. Pumping up the volume to “11,” the bass slam was truly visceral on my LCD Soundsystem albums. So if you do a lot of listening on the go and crave audiophile sound quality and maximum dynamics, the EAH-T700 would be a great choice.”

FINAL AUDIO DESIGN SONOROUS III REVIEW

” The cable is brilliant, it is extremely resistant to tangles. Final Audio Design has chosen to keep using the dual entry cable design. I think this is a great thing as it just feels more balanced on the head than a single entry setup does. Splitters and jack points are all very robust being made from polished aluminium with good strain reliefs built up on the inside. To attach and detach the cable to the ear-cups is super simple, just insert, twist and they lock securely in place.”
