” I believe the Omni does editorializing. I put on a live Richard and Linda Thompson concert, “You’re Gonna Need Somebody” (16/44 flac, Live at the Aurora Theater, Baltimore, Maryland May 13, 1982). Now, if you’ve ever trolled the internet and downloaded a concert, you know they are often not of pristine sound, and this one is no exception. It has edgy, penetrating highs, and is difficult to listen to at length on much gear (it sounds recorded off the board). While the sharp highs aren’t completely ameliorated, I had to play this concert from the initial American tour of one of my favorite bands EVER to the end. Hearing Richard and Linda center stage sounding as if they were in front of me, with the crack band and Richard’s incendiary guitar left me with a stupid grin on my face ”

Powered through the USB cable, though, the headphones finally found their sweet spot: The highs had more clarity and dexterity, the mids some depth, and the bass, while forward, was well formed. However, once connected via USB, the ANC controls and all the app features are inaccessible.”

” The Sonorous III are of course over-ear full sized circum-aural headphones meaning that they go over your ears as opposed to sitting on them. This is just one of the factors that lead the Sonorous III to be a very comfortable headphone. I found that hours would go by and I had no issue at all with build up of excessive heat as my ears just had so much room to breath. ”

” The tonal difference between open and closed is not what I expected at all. With the plates on you do get more of a closed in quality with a neutral and relatively balanced presentation but with a slight focus more on the mid-range and treble over any hard hitting bass performance. Clean and clear is how I would define it with a little bit of zip and sparkle in the top end. It doesn’t have the thickest note and bass is just neutral at best but it has a very good turn of speed, with good articulation and decent definition.”

“Try the beautiful flutes and bells at the opening of Reiner’s Mahler Symphony No. 4 on his famous RCA/Chicago Symphony. The playing is gorgeous but the orchestration and dynamic really highlights the coherence and timbral qualities the Puro brings. I’ve experienced this recording on what was probably the best sound I’ve heard from headphones — a MrSpeakers Alpha Prime headphone amplified by Cavalli. What a magical combination. The Puros can’t compete with that aural alchemy, but they did give musicality in spades. ”
