“The ME1 has very few obvious drawbacks, and its shortcomings are mostly attributable to the limits of its modest dimensions. However, its top-end still retains some residual dryness, and can’t quite summon up the same velvety harmonics of the CR1 or the barn-storming macro-dynamics of the CE1. In spite of the stellar imaging I’ve written about, soundstage width and depth were only adequate in my smallish listening space. But I’d imagine better results could be had in larger rooms. Finally I can understand how some listeners might not cotton to the sharp specificity of a concentric driver. The precision with which it draws boundaries around images seems natural to me, but it may seem mechanical to others.”

Aurum Cantus V30 M Review

“I started this review by mentioning that affordable products usually do not have high end allure, but Aurum Cantus takes a good stab at rewriting these rules. The V30Ms are beautifully sculpted and truly luxurious looking speakers indeed. They sound solid and assured, yet highly refined. Star of the show for me is the ribbon tweeter which sounds delicate and airy and well resolved. Surprising too is the amount of bass that these standmounts produce and inbetween is a warm and relaxed midrange. The V30M’s sound much larger than they are, and can play really loud too.”

GoldenEar Technology Triton Reference loudspeaker $8498 Review

“GoldenEar Technology’s Triton Reference isn’t quite as exquisite a time slicer as the top-of-the-line speakers from Magico, Rockport, Vandersteen, Vivid, and Wilson, all of which I’ve auditioned in the past year. What it does do is offer an expansive, almost always involving sweep of full-range sound for a price that is a small fraction of what any of those models cost.”

PureAudioProject Trio15 Horn1 Open Baffle Design Speaker $7490 Review

“Now lets get to what I consider the two holy grails of music, tone and dynamics. Tone is the area where many horn loudspeakers can fall. The distortion caused by sound waves propagating out of the horn can cause coloration. This tends to show up in vocals. This is not the case with the Trio Horns. Whether it was Imogen Heap, Peter Gabriel, K.D. Lang, Don Henley or Bjork, each retained their distinctive timber and intonation. With each listen, I gained more understanding of how these great artists used their voices to enhance the emotion of every song.”

Emotiva Airmotiv T1 Loudspeaker $699 Review

“Lest expectations begin spinning out of control, the T1 doesn’t quite hit the bullseye in every sonic criterion. It misses some of the textural, tonal, and dynamic linearity of an expensive studio monitor. Transparency is very good but as the music descends into the upper- and midbass there are hints of dynamic reticence and traces of cabinet noise that cause decays and reverberant information to be slightly reduced.”
