“Alongside its new turntable, Burmester showed its upcoming BC350, a somewhat less extreme version of the winged behemoth shown last year. Price is still to be determined (but it will be six figures) and will likely be launched in 2018. ELAC also showed a late prototype of the Concenrto M, a €30,000 slimmed down version of its flagship. Others worthy of note include the TIDAL La Assoluta, Raidho’s D-5.1 tower, and the Wilson Benesch Resolution played through Ypsilon electronics. I’m sure there were others, but I have to say I didn’t hear much that got past ‘mediocre’ and one or two that could strip paint at 100 paces’

“Going back to my ATC power amp and Townshend pre made matters more revealing and allowed higher playback levels without discomfort. I’m not a headbanger, but PMC tells me that this speaker would be happy to oblige if the need for high SPLs were to arise. At low and ‘normal’ levels, however, this is a stonking loudspeaker. It has uncannily low distortion and remarkable transparency in the context of a very even, almost relaxed presentation that reflects what you send over the wires with consummate ease. Build quality is superb, and I had the reddish Amarone veneer which looks great alongside the brightwork and the lovely model badge on the back. Despite appearances, this is a significantly better loudspeaker than the twenty.22, which itself is pretty respectable, and I for one can’t wait to hear what Laminair can do for the bigger models in PMC’s extensive range.

KEF Blade loudspeakers $32,000 Review

“My first listening experience with the KEFs was at an audio show several years ago where I also listened to the big YGs. What instantly impressed me was the Blades sounded as good as the $120,000 YGs that were driven by $150,000 worth of electronics. Some large floor standing loudspeakers sound “big” no matter what is playing. The Blades could act and sound like a small studio monitor when the music required it. Then when the music was large scale, as with a recording of Beethoven’s Ninth, the Blades took advantage of their full stature to realistically recreate the experience of being seated in a concert hall listening to a full symphony orchestra and chorus performing the monumental work. And doing that without individual objects in the sound stage being inflated or sounding exaggerated.”
