“The bass largely carries the melody in this tune, and the Prime Towers beautifully portrayed all the subtleties of Tony’s fingering, including little buzzes and intonation twists that aren’t heard much his work with Peter Gabriel and King Crimson, almost all of which is on fretted instruments. The drums in Gadd’s small jazz kit sounded truly lifelike; I could hear all the body and resonance of the kick drum and brushed snare as if they were right over behind the right speaker.”

” The Silver 10s are really great speakers, especially for the price, but there will be necessary compromises between ultra-wide soundstaging and imaging that might be a little stacked up in the center. They did, however, produce a surprisingly deep soundstage that reached far into the music. The harp that is so often shrouded by violins on the Einaudi track remained audible, and there were no issues with instruments sliding across the soundstage. The piano stayed positioned to the right, with the notes flowing toward my listening position, rather than toward the floor.”

“, I was amazed to hear how clearly and cleanly the CM1 S2 reproduced Ian Gillan’s voice, even during his epic screams in the chorus. Although there wasn’t much bass, I found myself furiously tapping my foot anyway.”

“With the Reference 1s’ long port tubes installed, and listening at low to medium volume levels in my very large room, I heard a sound from the KEF minimonitors that was not unlike what I’d heard from Revel’s four-driver, three-way Performa3 F206 floorstanders ($3500/pair), which I reviewed in September and absolutely loved: superbly clean, extended highs; tight bass reaching down to just above 40Hz; midrange smoothness and clarity to die for”
