AURENDER A10 STREAMER/SERVER $5,500 Review

“The A10 is a sophisticated product that makes enjoying music simple. It is a true reference level piece. For the Headphone Aficionado, it may be the missing piece to a system that is reference but does not require a desk full of gear and a tangle of expensive cables. The A10 performed beautifully with open and closed cans, Planar Magnetic, Dynamic, whatever I paired with it and for you two-channel speaker users it also worked perfectly as a Pre-amp with my amp and speakers. It has an excellent DAC. It can replace several items in your system in one beautiful box. What’s not to like? Highly Recommended!

AUDIOCAST M5 WIRELESS STREAMER REVIEW
January 9, 2018 Comments Off on AUDIOCAST M5 WIRELESS STREAMER REVIEW
“I hear no differences in staging size via the M5 through most other setups. That is a good thing. I expected far less realism but received a very good performer. This is funny, because, I do own a few streamers (which are video-enabled and not dedicated audio only like this M5 is) and the difference with some of them are apparent.
I can say that streaming services via my Roku are not half had at such a price and that the M5 sounds identical. What audio components are in there helping the signal boost, are quality.”

ELAC DISCOVERY SERIES DS‑S101-G MUSIC SERVER REVIEW
December 30, 2017 Comments Off on ELAC DISCOVERY SERIES DS‑S101-G MUSIC SERVER REVIEW
“The simple looking, yet elegant ELAC box is a secret power-up to your system. Roon is fast becoming the thing for music lovers to access their music, but – it must be said – the cost of entry can be a little steep for the as yet unconvinced. By building on a Roon Essentials backbone, the ELAC Discovery truly lives up to its name: a product that at once allows the user to discover their music in a deeper way, discover just how Roon enhances that deep listening concept, and for those still on the spinning-disc side of things to discover the world beyond their collection. And it’s easy to operate, install, and navigate for anyone who has a modicum of web skills (I’m far from black belt web-savvy, but I was up and running inside of 10 minutes flat, and two of those minutes were spent finding and loading the Roon app). Roon isn’t the future of music replay, but it’s certainly a major part of the future of music replay, and the ELAC Discovery DS-S101-G is the best and easiest way to experience that right now. Unless you are likely to hit that 30,000 track limit, this little box comes strongly recommended.”

Cary Audio AiOS Integrated Amplifier/DAC/Streamer $2,995 Review

Quiet passages conveyed ample negative space and were noise-free. And when the clangorous swells of guitars and keyboards eventually burst in, the sound retained a sense of ease, as opposed to becoming strained. Furthermore, the bass guitar sounded rock-solid and deep, and it retained its fullness over a range of volume levels. For kicks, I turned on SRC again to convert the Tidal FLAC stream to DSD. Same as with the Young track, the sound transformed in a good way: Details that had been layered deep in the mix, such as burbling synths and a forlorn, faraway trumpet, gained in clarity. To use a visual metaphor for what I was hearing, it was like tweaking the focus on a pair of binoculars.

PIONEER N-70AE NETWORK AUDIO PLAYER REVIEW
November 14, 2017 Comments Off on PIONEER N-70AE NETWORK AUDIO PLAYER REVIEW
“There’s a huge thwack to the opening drumbeats, just as much intent behind the wavering electronica underneath, and dynamic range to Dan Bejar’s vocal. There’s a dynamic ease to the acoustic version’s bare arrangement, and a sense of purpose hanging onto the vocal’s eerie echo.”

Gold Note DS-1000 Streamer DAC Review
November 6, 2017 Comments Off on Gold Note DS-1000 Streamer DAC Review
“I hope everyone who had read this review notices that I’ve written as much about the music I played through the Gold Note DS-100 as the component’s features and sound quality. That’s because the DS-1000, besides being an extremely modern piece of high-end audio kit, is a very musical product. Its reason for being seems to be the enjoyment of music, and the fact that it can stream music and decode files either when connected wired and wirelessly is the icing on the cake. To me, this musicality is the highest compliment I can give an audio component.”
