When the Christine Preamp was in line, after no more than a minute a contented expression would appear on their faces, and they visibly relaxed. They ceased talking or whatever they were involved in to give full attention to the playback. These reactions to the Christine Preamp were immediate, repeatable, and always salubrious. More often than not that happened with the L2.1.”

The internal phono stage of the C2600 matches its linestage perfectly – it has a beautiful sounding midrange that brings out the best in vocals and string sounds, and although the very lowest bass and highest treble frequencies seemed a bit attenuated, with good system matching this might not come into play that much. The internal DAC of the C2600 is that it is as transparent as one could ask for.”

“Often when I’m writing a review I try to think about the person who might audition and then buy the product at hand. How would his or her wants and needs inform the buying decision? For much of my time with the Vivaldi 2.0, I was too preoccupied with my own wants and needs, greedily shuffling through my CDs and SACDs and raiding John Quick’s USB and NAS drives, to consider anything beyond the simple pleasure of listening to music. While it’s staggering how many ways you can integrate a Vivaldi 2.0 system into your audio system and home network, I personally would keep it simple (so to speak) and use it primarily for playing discs, relegating file replay to what could be copied to thumb drives”

“I’m a fan of big band music, and Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band is right in my wheelhouse. the track Sing Sang Sung from the album Swingin’ for the Fences, is a stalwart in my playlists. Great music, great musicians, great sound quality. It’s the trifecta about which audiophiles have always dreamed. Pressurizing the room right from the start, the drums are big and bold. The horn section enters, no less bold shortly thereafter. An elegant soprano sax enters the track, seemingly floating through the air. All of this sounds big and loud, but incredibly realistic. Attention kids, this is what real instruments sound like. The soundstage of this track through the Mytek Brooklyn is smack in the middle of the speakers both right to left and front to back. There is a nice sense of height though, especially when the soprano sax comes in toward the middle of the track. Height can be elusive in an audio system and it’s great to hear this from the $1,995 Brooklyn. ”
