“Regardless, there I was, at midnight, ahem, enjoying Bolero. And Keith Johnson’s excellent recording certainly allowed the VTL gear to shine. My Maggie 1.7s performed a pretty impressive disappearing act, with a stage as wide as the room and a depth that seemingly stretched far outside its rear wall.”

” If you like tons of treble detail–perhaps even slightly exaggerated treble detail–I don’t think the Illusion II is your digital preamp. I loved its sound, but I’m 53, and I’ve noticed that the older listeners get, the more they like smoother treble. I could speculate as to why, but I’d just be speculating.”

Unconstrained, dynamic, coherent presentation – that’s the shortest description of Statement’s performance. It is able to trigger amazing emotions related to the music one listens to, that make one want to absorb sound with one’s whole body. Treble’s character reminded me that of the best tube amplifier”

“There were really no major changes until around 300 hours of playing music through the system. Sonically, the system has continued to improve with further playing time, the minor timing accents have finally been released from their captive bind, the initial harshness and fatigue is gone and finally there is an overall sense of ease. Spatially, instruments and voices are now realistically portrayed in their own very large space, not too forward and with all the subtleties of live music. The more hours clocked up, the better it is sounding. Patience has its rewards.”

” The M22 and M12 share a number of construction details. I remember seeing the original prototypes of the new Masters Series models at the 2014 Consumer Electronics Show, and being impressed with their looks. Each features a thick, brushed-aluminum, silver backing plate, over which are laid the three segments of the faceplate proper, made of a material like black acrylic”

Naim Audio Statement Preamplifier & Power Amplifier $206,666 Review

“he device sports a high quality WBT NextGen RCA sockets. Also large, handy speaker posts were custom designed by Naim. They are placed close to the floor so connecting even heavy, thick cables shouldn’t be a problem. Next to them there are the only, balanced inputs in NAP S1. It is a bit surprising as Naim has been using DIN standard for years, but there is a simple explanation to that – both linestage and amplifiers sport fully balanced design and DIN is an unbalanced connection. A power switch has a form of a quite large lever. Both, preamplifier and power amps, sport solid spikes”

SOULUTION 711 STEREO AMPLIFIER, 701 MONOBLOCK AMPLIFIER

” When it comes to dynamic linearity the 501 was simply nonpareil. Every other amp I’d listened to, tube or solid-state, reached a point where it simply couldn’t get louder or more dynamic without also audibly changing its sonic character. Sometimes, this pivot point came relatively early on, as it did with the puny ARC Reference 210 monoblocks (less so with the stouter Reference 250s); sometimes it came relatively late, as it did with the Constellation Centaur.”

“This mode is simply labeled “NAD” under the Listening Mode field within the onscreen GUI. I experimented with this mode and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. A feature like this can be very arbitrary, but my first instinct is that it made an improved difference, although results can vary depending on the movie soundtrack.”

BALANCED AUDIO TECHNOLOGY REX II PREAMPLIFIER AND REX II MONOBLOCK POWER AMPLIFIERS REVIEW $19,900 each

“Overall, the Rex II amplifiers delivered, when appropriate, a tremendous wallop—not a sledgehammer assault but a true sense of the scale and sweep of the music. One track alone sufficed to demonstrate for all and sundry who were at my house for a party that the amplifiers can deliver a prodigious amount of current—on Monty Alexander’s mind-blowingly good performance of “Night Mist Blues” at the Montreux Festival, the palpability, speed, and body of the piano as he slams the keys were staggering, enough to bowl over even non-jazz aficionados. The piano seemed to resound in the very space in front of us.”
