GrooveMaster 3 Tonearm Review

The catch was that I had to do some serious online searching to find a good metal one; there was a plethora of plastic mounts available (which are less than ideal sonically), and although advertised as suitable for my BL-91 turntable, the first aluminum one I ordered was too large to fit. I got a refund from Amazon and eventually hit pay dirt with this one. The mount was secured to the Micro Seiki’s plinth with four screws. From there, I then used their pivot-to-spindle template to place it at the proper distance. This process required patience and trial and error, as I had to unscrew, rotate, and reattach the armboard mount several times to get it right.

VIABLUE™ AUDIO CABLE $1,113.00/1-meter pair REVIEW
July 29, 2024 Comments Off on VIABLUE™ AUDIO CABLE $1,113.00/1-meter pair REVIEW
Looking over the VIABLUE™ cable product catalog, the cable options aren’t so much defined into clearly separate lines as opposed to wire gauge and design differences. This makes for a multitude of choices and a large degree of customization to be available to the end-user. Speaker cables are categorized by the number of conductors employed and if the products use VIABLUE™ Air Pipe topology. Power cables are differentiated mostly by conductor gauge. Analog cable varies by using either pure OFC copper or Silver-plated OFC copper conductors, and whether they employ Air Pipes or are configured in a twisted pair under an outer sheath. VIABLUE’s digital cable offerings are the most straightforward, essentially constituting a single tier. All digital cables (except for Toslink Optical) use Silver-plated OFC wire. VIABLUE™ also plans to release an HDMI cable later this year.

Westone Audio AM Pro X20 IEM $399 Review
July 28, 2024 Comments Off on Westone Audio AM Pro X20 IEM $399 Review
In my listening sessions, I found the AM Pro X20 to be a lively performer with good dynamics and a bit of a bass boost centering around 150Hz before gradually tapering off as it moves up the frequency range.
The sub bass rolls off fairly high with a notable drop-off below 45Hz; the mid bass is much more of the focus with impressive levels of impact and detail.
The midrange do step back slightly, particularly the lower midrange which impacts the presentation of male vocals. There is more than enough weight and clarity, but they do not get pushed forward of the instrumentation and some might feel that they sound slightly recessed.

Horch House YELLO Stella Master Edition Tape
July 25, 2024 Comments Off on Horch House YELLO Stella Master Edition Tape
YELLO celebrated their global breakthrough in 1985 with their fourth longplayer “Stella”, with which Dieter Meier and Boris Blank shot to the top of the Swiss charts – making them the first local band to reach number 1 in the Swiss charts. In Germany, the album reaches 6th place in the charts and is honoured with a gold record. While YELLO had previously been treated as a well-kept insider tip, the entire pop world now focussed on the Zurich duo. With the mega-hit “Oh Yeah”, YELLO left their mark on international pop culture for the first time: after the song, which was not originally planned as a single, entered the international charts, the hype took on a life of its own when “Oh Yeah” was featured on the soundtrack of the cinema blockbusters “Ferris macht blau” (1986) and “Das Geheimnis meines Erfolges” (1987), inspiring a worldwide audience of millions. To this day, the song can be heard at regular intervals in cinema and TV productions such as “The Simpsons” and countless commercials.

Vertere turntables have several unique design features. Each of the four models employs an attractive acrylic plinth, offered transparent or, except in the DG-1S, in a choice of three colors: Black Metallic, Pearlescent White, and Champagne. Each plinth structure comprises several thick layers of acrylic separated by precisely tuned, strategically placed rubber isolation mounts that damp vibration through the structure. Apart from the sub-platter, a three-layer plinth structure is found on the RG-1 and SG-1, a two-layer structure on the MG-1, and a single layer on the DG-1S.

Triode Lab 2A3 EVO integrated amplifier $8999 Review

Another EVO, the PrimaLuna 400 EVO tubed integrated ($5995), is capable of outputting a whopping 38Wpc into 8 ohms. It produced a bigger soundstage, but it lacked the bloom and sweetness of tone the Triode Lab produced. The PrimaLuna was more energetic and produced more detail, yet somehow I felt less connected to the music—and that is something the PrimaLuna excels at. Compared to the 2A3 EVO, the music kept its distance. The PrimaLuna on paper has more to offer: It can drive a wider variety of speakers and power tubes, includes a headphone amp, a MM phono stage, remote, triode/ultralinear switching, more inputs, subwoofer, and tape outs. Nothing comes free!
