The inclusion of HDMI ARC, phono capability, extensive streaming support, and a robust software ecosystem further enhances its appeal.

At $6,500, the MOON 371 is unquestionably a premium product. Yet its thoughtful engineering, outstanding build quality, comprehensive functionality, and consistently engaging sonic performance make a compelling case for its asking price. Within the category of all-in-one streaming integrated amplifier, it is difficult to find a more accomplished or better-rounded product. For listeners seeking a sophisticated, no-compromise integrated solution that can serve as the heart of a reference-quality music system, the MOON 371 deserves serious consideration.

The platter itself uses a dual-layer construction. A non-magnetic SUS316L stainless steel main platter is paired with either an A7075 Extra Super Duralumin or TP340 pure titanium upper platter. The two are permanently vacuum bonded into a single, highly rigid structure, with the different materials providing distinct mechanical characteristics while preserving structural integrity.

Supporting the entire assembly is the Monotube Oil-Damped Spring Suspension, a refined evolution of the design introduced with the Air Force Two. A precision spring operates within a sealed, oil-damped chamber, while a free-floating piston regulates movement and dissipates unwanted energy. This arrangement effectively isolates the platter from external vibration, allowing it to settle with composure and maintain a stable, controlled platform for the stylus.

Jane’s Addiction’s “Mountain Song” from the album Nothing’s Shocking is not just a power-chord masterpiece. At the 3-minute mark, the solo begins, and Dave Navarro’s bends seem otherworldly. There’s a degree of separation without too much sibilance that you can always hear in the recording; this is perhaps because of the bass in these monster speakers. When I compared my Alyssa speakers to the FR5, I could hear the tuning for the Alta Audio component to be of the soft-silk side of the sound, whereas the FR5’s have a more pronounced neutral sound; the Alyssas still had a little more pop in the highs. The neutral side of the FR5 (though the bass was always present) was more welcoming to some of the music I played than the Alyssa (which almost doubles the price). I’ll give a few examples.

In the last few years, Mary Halvorson has become one of my favourite artists; her sound is original, the layers of her compositions are volatile, and their unpredictability shows her mastery of the instrument. She just recorded an album with Ambrose Akinmusire, Slo-Mo Neon Luminate Hoverings (2026). I invite you to listen to it. The air of Akinmusire’s trumpet is palpable, and Halvorson’s Guild archtop guitar sings with phrasing that fragments your mind. The FR5’s make this album not just enjoyable, but an unforgettable listening experience. I ordered the vinyl of this recording as soon as I listened to it. The low bass and open mids of the FR5’s draw out the creativity and uniqueness of these artists.

My good friend Timmy, gifted me a new copy of London Calling by The Clash (remastered LP 180 gram pressing). This album is part of my bloodstream. I have been listening to this collection of rebellious punk rock angst, since its original release in 1979. To say I know it well, would be an understatement. Double espresso in hand, I sat down to listen to both LPs (four sides total).

Starting with the ubiquitous “London Calling”, followed by “Brand New Cadillac” and on through the entire eighteen track; my audio room was awash with visceral 1980s punch. The Pass Labs X260.8 monoblock amplifiers were alive! A burn-in of about 150 hours seems to be about average for this level of gear. A few days of burn-in does not cut it any longer.

It was now time for my “Demo of Destruction” playlist, again. By early afternoon it was time to test some limits. This time, Bassnectar’s “Above and Beyond” provided the visceral chest-thumping that I’ve come to expect. Playing through the rest of the “Demo of Destruction” playlist; the X260.8s delivered the goods. At one point, my spouse requested (repeatedly), a lowering of the volume; which was politely ignored (she’s not my mother!). As the cost of a good divorce lawyer would empty my new speaker fund; I decided to switch back to vinyl.

I have followed the brand from the very beginning and have had the opportunity to explore many products from their impressive portfolio, as well as review several of their components over the years. The Ianus Ithaka continues the heritage and legacy of Aries Cerat, but as expected from Danos, it also introduces something refreshingly unique.

Every Aries Cerat DAC and product I have tried so far has this unmatched, unrestrained sense of authority and an enormous ability to shift from the quietest musical passages to thunderous crescendos with lightning speed.
