SENNHEISER HD 660S2 REVIEW

After the bass section, surely the treble section is most exciting and most retuned. Treble is lively and energetic, with a spacious, clean, and precise delivery. Treble extends well but always is perfectly controlled. The popular peak is still their around 3kHz and the roll-off starts around 8kHz but you never get the feeling of missing out. At the same time treble is always clean and lively to the ear, never becoming harsh, sharp, or unpleasant. For me this tuning works really well.

SHANLING M1S REVIEW
June 3, 2023 Comments Off on SHANLING M1S REVIEW
The DAPs I reviewed recently from Shanling have great designs. However, this might come to you a bit odd and out of place, mainly because of the three buttons on top of the screen. They’re there for play/pause, skip/previous track. This choice from Shanling is questionable. Maybe they thought about using the player without touching the screen for playback control.
Nevertheless, these buttons are a part of the design. But another problem here is that it sacrifices some space on the screen. And when it’s held in its original position, your thumb covers a lot of screen space as well. However, Shanling has a solution in which you can invert the screen upside down from the software, to place the buttons on the bottom. That works better overall.

Dan D’Agostino S350 Stereo Power Amplifier $27,250 Review
June 2, 2023 Comments Off on Dan D’Agostino S350 Stereo Power Amplifier $27,250 Review
As an audio reviewer, I feel as if I should have some negative criticisms, as no audio component is “perfect. I do not want to paint myself into a corner and say this is the best power amplifier on the market. At this level, there are going to be nuances between amplifiers that some audiophiles will prefer over others. And to be honest, I’ve auditioned nowhere near every solid-state power amplifier on the market. It would be interesting to compare the D’Agostino Progression S350 to an amplifier that costs double or triple its price. But one of those might not match my system as well as the D’Agostino Progression S350. One would be correct if they argued that I liked this amplifier so much only because it was such a good fit with the rest of my system. So be it.

WESTONE AUDIO MACH 10, 40, AND 50 REVIEW

I could utilize them to gauge the signer’s level in how well and stable she could hold notes and in every nuance she brought to the table. What I like most about this track is outside of the light piano track and backing vocals, it’s as close a situation as a listener may find themselves in to an artist using In-Ear Monitors for their intended purpose. Except this time we are the silent watchful observer, using such creations to enjoy the performance on hand.

FiiO M11S $499 Review

The FiiO saves itself from being a boring rectangular chassis by being almost a boring rectangular chassis, save for its left-hand side angled protrusion, on the outer edge of which you’ll find power and multi-purpose buttons as well as a nicely sized, slightly textured volume pad. Our eyes lit up at the sight of the latter, presuming it would be a slider control to allow for one-finger volume adjustment when the player is sat on a surface. Disappointingly it isn’t, but like the rest of the controls (pause/play and skip tracks on the player’s right-hand edge) it is reliably responsive and ergonomic while in the hand.
FiiO has been in the game long enough to know how to produce an intuitive music player both from hardware and software perspectives. The FiiO Music app gives a positive first impression – open it up and it prompts you to scan local files on the device (which are easy to copy across from a computer using a free third-party software such as Android File Transfer) and any networked files you may have on a NAS device. And it builds on that during our testing with a logically laid out and pleasantly attractive interface that most people will get to grips with within minutes. Album artwork takes up most of the playback screen’s real estate, though we are equally pleased to see full format and size information for every track just below it.

PSB Synchrony T800 Loudspeaker $11,999 Review

Moving into the midrange, things got a lot closer. The Sonus Fabers and PSBs both produced an essentially neutral midrange that did not color voices. Both models created good width and, when the music allowed, produced a soundstage that was both expansive laterally and precise. Vocalists that should appear dead center did exactly that. The one difference was that the Sonus Fabers had a slightly more dimensional midband whereas the PSBs could sound a touch flat by comparison. The SFs produced a soundstage that was deeper and more three-dimensional as a result. The upper frequencies were a bit surprising: I actually heard slightly more air and sparkle through the Sonus Fabers than through the PSBs. This may come as a surprise, as the SF contains a soft-dome tweeter and the PSB is equipped with a metal dome.

The Dan D’Agostino Integrated Amplifier Review
May 29, 2023 Comments Off on The Dan D’Agostino Integrated Amplifier Review
My review sample of the Progression integrated amplifier included the DAC module only—not the phono stage module. I compared the Progression DAC module to my standalone dCS Bartok DAC for streaming and my collection of both high resolution and ripped CD files. The source for both was provided by my Aurender N-10 music server. I also compared these configurations to a direct Ethernet network connection to the Progression and its DAC module while streaming, and when using the Progression iOC App. Qobuz was my primary streaming service for all of these evaluations

Aavik P-580 Amplifier & C-580 Preamplifier Review

The Aaavik P-580 amplifier and C-580 capability of decoding even the smallest fragment of music and format it with the correct harmonic order to avoid the trap of music sounding univocal were further cemented with “Crossroads” by Memphissippi Sounds from Welcome to the Land.
By achieving the density of higher-level acoustic focal points, Aavik P-580 and C-580 initiated a musical framework without impediment vicinity but allowed the proximity of notes to expand and breathe in space thus forming an objective acoustic space that was not subjected to the angulated holosphere sound effect.

Alsyvox Audio Design Botticelli X Loudspeaker $100,000 per Review
May 28, 2023 Comments Off on Alsyvox Audio Design Botticelli X Loudspeaker $100,000 per Review
Over our entire day of listening, the resultant degree of coherence the Botticelli effortlessly delivered, its ability to convincingly speak with one continuous voice, was simply extraordinary. That voice is full-bodied, replete with the complex harmonic structures of individual instrumental accents that it presents with an overall tonal balance that is as faultless as I’ve ever experienced from any ribbon driver-based loudspeaker. As such, the piano was superbly represented time and time again, and the Botticelli’s ability to convey micro-dynamic shadings, combined with its truthful depiction of timbre, was simply and convincingly real sounding. Tone color is richly vibrant and texturally complete. Instrumental decay is portrayed exceptionally faithfully, with a sense of unrestricted speed that allowed for a very natural interpretation of its natural linger and air, all attributes of their remarkable coherence and astonishing speed.
